Dave Tipps, aka Charlie Ross, Has Passed Away

For many years, Charlie Ross was a mainstay at WQLT in Florence. Ross, whose real name was Dave Tipps, was living in Nashville when he passed away early this morning. Funeral services will be announced by Moore Cortner Funeral Home in Winchester, Tennessee.

Our sincerest sympathies to his wife Liz and the many fans he left behind.

Our poll on mug shots is now over. While inherently unscientific, approximately 20% of our daily readers voted, favoring publishing these public records by a 3 to 1 margin.

Also over is qualifying for the March primaries. We'll begin evaluating candidates immediately. Please send us any info you wish published if we haven't already contacted you.

  5. I still have my Ross & Whitaker For Mayor button.
He was good for our community. Unfortunately, I did not know him personally. Sincere condolences to his family and many friends.

    1. For everyone who knew Charlie: we are planning a very informal Reunion / Wake / Celebration of life in his honor. Saturday 2pm at O'Malleys in Sheffield, Alabama. Coworkers and friends are welcome. Ron Jeffries, Florence, Alabama

  6. Charlie was not only a great coworker but also a true friend. He and I shared MANY great times together during our time together at WQLT. I will always cherish the memories. Thanks Charlie. Take the headphones off now and rest in peace. Ron Jeffries, Florence, Alabama

  7. I'm a big fan of QLT and enjoyed listening to Charlie. I can't remember what happened that prompted the Ross & Whitaker for Mayor, but it was probably the same ole same politics as usual. RIP
