Franklin County Killed the Hartline Children...and They Deserve Justice

Note: This is about justice for the two Hartline children. If you feel this should all be swept under the rug, stop reading now. Otherwise, no complaints.

In February 2015, neighbors summoned police to the Red Bay residence of Richard and Emily Hartline. Police found numerous drugs, including meth, along with their two children being left virtually unsupervised. The Hartlines were arrested, and authorities had the two children tested for drugs. The four year- old boy tested negative, but the 15 month-old girl showed signs of methamphetamine in her system. DHR immediately took the children.

The Hartlines have faced several legal problems since then; Richard Hartline is currently in the Franklin County Detention Center on charges related to the original arrest as well as newer crimes.

At this point, the two Hartline children should have been placed for adoption. Yes, this is our viewpoint and apparently not the stance of the Franklin County DHR. What DHR did was to leave the Hartline children in foster care for over three years. Yes, three years and six months to be exact. Why?

Foster parents are supposedly carefully vetted. Yes, that's why we have a Florida couple indicted in Lauderdale County awaiting trial on physical and sexual abuse. No, the foster mother of the two Hartline children, Roman Nicholas and Haven Grace, decided to place the two on the back of the ATV she was driving on a public road.

Since many news agencies and their writers are obtuse concerning ATVs, many readers are also. ATVs and UTVs are two different machines. ATVs are essentially just two motorcycles with a seat in between. There are no roll bars on ATVs. Unless specially outfitted, they are illegal on public highways. It's also illegal with all models to transport more than two people...usually illegal to transport more than one, depending on the model.

We don't know what this 47 year-old woman was thinking, but she obviously didn't care. Kill these two foster children and the state will give her some more? Let us sincerely hope not.

In fact, let's hope that Franklin County prosecutes this woman to the max. The two Hartline children never had a chance in life. Shall we repeat that?

The State of Alabama made sure the two Hartline children never had a chance in life.

  1. First off, i would like to begin by say that you're a complete and total idiot. What happened was a tragic accident. Furthermore, those kids knew a love, security and family from their foster mother the likes of which we all wish for. They were happy, healthy, and loved.

To raise another point, and to further contest the pure ignorance of your shallow view, they arent the first children to ride an atv and won't be the last. In this region almost everyone rides them. There was know malice, no neglect, just a tragic set of circumstances. Every last member of their foster family mourns for them and don't deserve the slander of an ignorant and uninformed imbecile with nothing better to do look for flaws in all that they see

    1. No one has said the crash wasn't an accident. Yet...when the foster mother placed not one, but two children on the ATV it was illegal. When she drove on a public road, it was illegal. Do you understand what illegal is? She committed at least two separate crimes whether there was a crash or not. No slander here, not even any libel. You do understand that she can and should be charged with manslaughter?

  2. Ok. I told my wife not to comment. But as the post said. "After 3 years". She didn't have them 3 years she only had then since April. The last 3 years of back and forth with the family and they didnt keep them. The grandmother was the only one that was there for them. But couldn't really take care of them because of her age. But the foster parent STOOD UP AND took the responsibility!!! In April. And she's not even blood ..BUT Those kids had a drug free "PARENT". "COSTODIAN". "FOSTER PARENT" AND SOME ONE THAT FINALY LOVED AND LOOKED OUT FOR THEM. How many of you drive your 4wheelers down the road. ???? A lot.

    1. First, our comment on three years was directed toward DHR not taking legal control of the children and adopting them out. Second, anyone driving an ATV on a public road is driving illegally.

We'll add here that one suggested this was not a public road. Even if it was not, driving with two passengers was illegal. And, no, we would not do it.

    1. The two children were placed behind the operator (foster mother) who then drove down a road with gravel. A deer ran out in front, and when operator braked, the ATV was unbalanced with the occupants and overturned. That is the official version and all we know.

  7. You should probably do a better job of gathering information. You are nowhere near correct on your article. Or any other ones that I've read. Have a nice day.
