"How Shall We Handle These Accusations?"

Human nature is a beautiful thing to behold...and a desperate one. We've had some interesting comments on our Waterloo football blog. Let's look at some Waterloo fan rebuttals:

1. These aren't true because no one claimed authorship of the story.

2. What does it matter if these accusations are true, why can't everyone just be happy for us?

3. The photograph used was an old one from last year. The Fox Radio Shoals sports reporter simply used an old photo and lied about it.

4. If you identify someone as African-American, you're racist.

(While Half of Waterloo is Already Irritated at Us, Who Designed This Building? It Looks Like a Post Office.)

There were probably more, but you get an idea of the quality of debate we see here. We're not sure if our favorite is number two where morals and ethics are tossed to the wind or number three where someone is attempting to throw the Fox Radio reporter under the bus.

There was also the "no one bothered to get the facts." Really? We asked for input a week ago and got very little. On the flip side, Rusty has said he would be happy to do a halftime show to help the team out.

A letter from someone identifying herself as "Grandma"...

I am increasingly becoming more concerned over the state of behavior that can be seen in today's locally elected and appointed officials. Is it a possibility for state and county wide politicians to be seen as derelict of duty due to time spent concocting and promoting Tim Melson's 'Dreamvision' Ag Center? Am I the only person who is skeptical of something that tries to be all things to all people? Our lawmakers are currently wanting to bypass old laws eliminating the need to take bids for Ag Center contracts. If Timmy loses his reelection will he still hold a position with the Ag Authority? The biggest question of all is will the Ag Center be anything more than a huge funnel used to suck tax money into a pig trough? Is that why we are seeing so many line up to feed?  This attitude of 'we are your rulers you do as we say' has to end.

Many whom we know and respect are in total support of the Ag Center. We'll be addressing this in more detail at a later date. In the interim, if you have comments on the issue, please send them now. That's unless you'd rather wait until after our article and then say we didn't get all the facts.

  1. Waterloo is an amazing school. Why does everything has to be about race and looks. I graduated from this school and I loved it so much my children will go here also. People need to grow up these days!

  2. *maybe you should take a moment to read what Chuck Hammer from Fox Sports Shoals had to say.

First off I would like to thank all the coaches, players, and fans who participated in our annual Fox Two-a-Days Tour. Every year we look forward to visiting all the schools in Colbert and Lauderdale Counties.
I want to clear up any confusion about my visit to Waterloo. The player in question was not practicing and did not participate in practice in any way.
The mission of Fox Sports Shoals is to promote and celebrate the accomplishments of all teams, individuals, schools, and communities in these two counties.
If anyone ever has any questions, comments, or concerns please feel free to call me anytime.

  3. I am running against Sen. Melson for State Senate District 1 this year and can answer a few of "Grandma's" questions... 1) If I defeat Sen. Melson in November, he will still serve on the Ag Authority until 2023 the way the Articles of Incorporation are written now, with each member serving for a 6 year term. 2) The way the Act creating the Ag Authority is written, the project is completely tax-exempt, with any tax revenue generated by the Authority going back to the Authority - yet our tax dollars, the TVA in-lieu of funds (that previously went to the municipalities and schools) and the extension of the gas tax have already paid for the land the Authority purchased (at a price of $2.825 million). The Authority says that the project will cause hotels, etc. to be built which will indirectly bring in tax revenue. But to me, this seems like a "Field of Dreams" with the Ag Authority thinking, "if we build it they will come" yet they have yet to present a feasibility study showing the project to be feasible or any plans of what the proposed project really will be to the public.

Shoalanda, I've done a lot of research on this project and would be happy to share what I know.

  4. Please produce proof that Waterloo is cheating instead of impugning the character of the coaches, teachers, and community.
