Waterloo & Liars?

What would you do to save your school? Or could you care less? Like a displaced Cosmopolite in a Cafe', many in Florence now regret having no alma mater. So what if your school is still open, but the Thanksgiving turkey isn't the only thing on the fast approaching chopping block?

There's long been talk of closing Waterloo School. Would a state football championship help keep it open? Sadly, in this state, the answer might just be yes. So how far would you go to get that state championship? Or in other words, what's a little illegal recruiting if it fills a pressing need?

If you have information or comments on current antics at Waterloo School, please contact us.

Across the river we have the booming school district of Muscle Shoals. Recently, we read an article by one educator advocating the proposed property tax increase and noticed several flaws in logic. "Flaws in logic" is the nicest way we can put it, but several of our readers have used much harsher words. "Liar" seems to have sprung to the minds of many Muscle Shoals citizens.

To say we've been bombarded with rebuttals to a certain principal's defense of a 31% tax increase (67% if you must), would be putting it mildly. We have enough material to blog on for days, even disregarding the comments concerning the principal's "manly parts."

So let's get started:

  1. I don't know who you get your information from but the bit about Waterloo is a lie. There is no antics going on at our little school. How do you illegally recruit in high school football, they don't get paid so what would be offered passing grades, free lunches, or maybe the best lockers and parking spot. People switch schools all the time nothing is illegal about that. People is just jealous that Waterloo has a winning team again. Our boys practice hard and work together as a team and our Coaches are great and push the boys to be great and that's why we are winning again. Stop the bashing because you can no longer make fun of a losing football team.

  2. What a joke. Some will say anything for attention and retaliation on others when they know who is to blame for the loss of their own football team. You might want to do a little more researching and look at other schools that have lost and gained new players this year. Waterloo is a family and we all stick together and care about one another. That may draw people to take a look at the school itself and see that’s it’s a good place for their child. Gets facts and stop spreading rumors.

  3. ((Laughing hysterically)) Wow just WOW! To really suggest that Waterloo is somehow “recruiting illegally” for football is not only the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard of in my life but makes me realize that you’re a complete idiot. Let me tell you something sweetheart, Waterloo is an amazing school & I was beyond blessed to learn from some of the best teachers I could have ever had in my life for 13 solid years. Also, you don’t hear about OUR students bringing weapons to school or better yet any of the teachers sleeping with the students!!! You know why? BECAUSE WE ARE A FAMILY & PROTECT OUR OWN!!! I suggest you go back under your rock or better yet how about you keep your little snarky comments about something you know nothing about to yourself. Love Always,

  4. Interesting that these comments all concern football and not one mentions saving the school from closure.

    1. I have been in Waterloo my entire life, my mother graduated from there along with my husband and most of our extended family. And now proudly one of my three children have graduated with not only pride but honors, my other two will do the same thing. My mom had to defend me against stupid accusations about the school closing then just like I am having to do now. And the sad part is my children will probably do the same thing for their children one day. We love or school and respect the rules! I really think if it was going to close it would have done so the first time this rumor went around 25+ years ago.

  5. You are a complete idiot Shoalanda! I was born & raised in Waterloo and went to Waterloo School K-12. Now my four children all go to school there and I wouldn't have it any other way because Waterloo School is the BEST school around in my opinion. I can assure you that all the love and support we all have as a community will keep those walls of Waterloo School standing strong. It's not OUR fault that the players/players parents, from the other school decided they wanted to enroll their children into a better school! You said that there has been numerous mentions of OUR school getting closed down, so If we were "illegally recruiting" to keep OUR school open why wouldn't we have "illegally recruited" at the first mention of it being closed down!? As a strong & loving community, WE do not have to "illegally recruit" to keep OUR school open, WE can do that just standing together as a strong community as WE are! You really need to grow up and find something else to talk about because nothing you have said about OUR school is going to dictate or change anything about who WE are! Things like this just make US stand stronger! I will pray for your idiotic behavior and pray that you get better at finding truth behind your stories. I know it's gotta be hard to find things to talk about that you can get people to listen to/read when your so ignorant, but try harder sweetheart... GOOD LUCK!
