Bailey Quarters On Corey Griffin

Bailey's Bailiwick:

Did he or didn't he? Most of us just know what we read in the papers and hear on TV, so what should we think about Corey Griffin? Did he attempt to rape a fellow UNA student last fall?

Guess most of us may never know the answer to that, but we can sort out some of the "details" that are rummaging around here. First we have Corey who graduated from high school in 2009. Mr. Russel says Corey was set to graduate early, but Corey stated himself he didn't start classes until fall 2009 and the papers said he was a sophomore at the time of his arrest. Early? Well, we aren't too sure about that one.

I don't think anyone would be stepping out on a limb here to say Corey has been no saint and he doesn't seem to learn from his mistakes. Okay, he's just a high school kid when he roughs up a girlfriend and throws her out of a car. She was obsessed with him? He was obsessed with her? Makes no difference. What he did was violent and obviously wrong and he got probation. Most people would have learned from that.

So less than two years later Corey is at UNA and has an older girlfriend. She gets a restraining order just like his Talladega girlfriend, but we don't know exactly what happened there. Corey is either just as volatile as ever or at best isn't a very good judge of character.

Now we come to the fall frat rush of 2011 and Corey is intoxicated. He probably wasn't the only one and he did have enough sense to know he wasn't able to drive. Score one for Corey. Or maybe not since at least two hours after he leaves the party he has blacked out at home, that's quite a bit of drinking for one who isn't even legal age. Still more illegal activity for the tennis ace, but the kind most wink at I guess. BTW, what does UNA say about all this frat activity and underage drinking?

Now Corey calls a girlfriend to give him a drive home. They wind up having sex in the front seat of her car, but was it consensual or was it rape? Well, the woman says rape, so police are called and find Corey blacked out at his home in Muscle Shoals. No one has suggested Corey doesn't remember what happened, but I will. It's a definite possibility.

I also hope the Muscle Shoals detectives read Corey his rights. He sure opened up to them with all kinds of statements and none of them made him look like a gentleman or even a caring human being. That doesn't make him a rapist, but since this is woman number three who's accusing him of violence it's a distinct possibility.

So a grand jury isn't allowed to hear Corey's past record. I understand that's the law. I really don't understand the correctness of this particular law. Someone charged with rape has shoplifted, it's not important. Someone charged with rape has been charged with violence to women twice before it should be important. But since the grand jury didn't hear about Corey's past they didn't indict him. If I had been on the jury, I probably wouldn't have either. But I wasn't and I've read his history and as Ivy says, he's not exactly a moral character.

End of story, unless Corey hasn't learned something from this incident. I hope he has.

State senator Roger Bedford has gone on record as saying Alabama's illegal immigration law is racist. Surely Sen. Bedford knows that "Hispanic" is not a race; surely he also knows the law has impacted Japanese and Germans as well as those from south of the border?

  1. People who want to support Corey Griffin will no matter what the truth is. Then he'll commit some other crime and they'll still support him. Too bad one of them won't get him some help.

    1. Interesting comment. We wonder if anyone posting here as Corey's friends have attempted to get any counseling for him? At the very best, he needs to realize how alcohol has adversely affected his life and his need for a better quality of companion.

  2. This won't get published because this blog hides behind anonymous and multiple screennames and spews half truths and inuendo about whoever the writer wishes to hold a vendetta against and then censors comments, but I sincerely hope the day comes when the public finds out WHO Shoalanda; be it a man or woman, really is someday and can see the faults be exposed in her/their character PUBLICLY!
The hypocrisy of hiding behind Christianity and at the same time inciting hate and near violence in print under anonymity is glaring throughout this blog and it's supporters.

I would use my real name but it is easier to post under anonymous and besides the author her/him/themselves use psuedonyms instead of showing the courage to identify themselves when printing such garbage. Then have the audacity to scold those who use what they consider vulgur epitaths at this blog on rebuttal. This entire BLOG is ONE GIANT EXERCISE IN VULGARITY!

    1. No one here has a vendetta against anyone. As for anyone who writes here, unless it might be a random guest commentary, no one has ever been arrested for any violence against anyone, much less a woman, and certainly not for rape. One false accusation? It happens. Two false accusations? Hmmm. Three false accusations? Sorry, that just doesn't wash.

    2. What three false accusations? Are you even attempting to assert that a restraining order is a prelude to, or the same thing as, the charge of rape being levied against someone? It's not even a criminal act to have one issued against you, unless you violate it. As a matter of fact, anyone can get a restraining order against another person fairly easily and you don't have to commit a crime to get slapped with one either. I'm quite surprised you haven't seen the likes of one yourself.

A restraining order is a form of legal injunction that requires a party to do, or to refrain from doing, certain acts. A party that refuses to comply with an order faces criminal or civil penalties and may have to pay damages or accept sanctions.

  3. To post on a blog, well let's just say it's not my style. But I've read all the slanderous remarks and allegations about this young man and it's just amazing to me how the truth can be distorted. I'm saying slanderous, which means malicious gossip, because if something is said or especially put in print that is not the absolute truth then it would be slanderous, right? And I believe against the law? But anyway as the saying goes, you hear all the bad about a person but you'll never hear all the good. Seems to be human nature. But here's some truth for you. Case #1 - High School Girl -Corey graduated Talladega High School and she graduated Talladega High School 2 years later. They were both there at the same time. The truth is there was no restraining order. They were both just told to stay away from each other. There's a lot more to this story but I'm not about hurting people. Case #2 - Older Woman - Restraining order? Well you decide. It was a Cease & Desist order for communication, which basically means don't call me, don't text me. And I do believe that after a few months they wanted to reconcile and this older woman was to do away with this order. Guess not but I would think she broke it when the relationship started up again. Case #3 - UNA Girl - no bill, speaks for itself. Trust me on this one, the evidence presented was Corey's. And come on folks as much publicity as this young man has had you really think all of the jurors hadn't heard anything about him? Probably heard just enough that they really wanted to hear the case if the truth was known. Now I have one last thing for Corey, pick yourself up, dust yourself off, finish your education and most importantly hold your head up. You've been slandered and made a monster and you've done no more than the majority of all college students. As sad as it is, alcohol, sex, and relationships gone wrong just seem to be a part of college life.

  4. Alcohol and sex made him the monster...and contrary to what you state, that's not the norm for college kids, but I can see how it makes relationship "go wrong."

Where there's smoke there's fire...and I'm seeing three smoke stacks from this boy.

  5. Another blog post from another hypocritical blog writing so called "Christian" this Margo Brown.
Quick to call people "monsters" with no evidence aren't you, this low life blog writing hypocrites here.
The "monsters" seem to be some wierd crowd who has inhabited the internet here in the Shoals spewing their hate filled lies. OB, Shoalanda and now this Brown Recluse.
    Your day is coming!

    1. The Brown Recluse used the term "monster" because it had first been used by "anonymous" this morning. Just because one is a Christian one does not have to overlook egregious behavior from others, especially when that behavior hurts those weaker than themselves.

    2. There IS no EVIDENCE or CONVICTION that Corey Griffin EVER hurt anyone weaker than himself.
Of course I DO consider myself a Christian, respect the commandment against bearing false witness, and will not overlook the egregious and slanderous behaviour of you blog writers, especially when the one's you hurt have no way of defending themselves in print other than to respond to your allegations on this same forum and thus legitimize your lies in some way.
Shoalanda and company are not only "blog bullies" you qualify as REAL life hypocritical literary MONSTERS who thrive because of hate, the anonymity of the internet and the public's gullibility.

    3. I too know the girl from High School, I have seen (and have pictures of the bruises) where he hit her and tried to drive off while she was getting out of the car. She still has scars, so please do not say he is innocent. He had his chance to change and made the choice to think that once again MOMMY could get him out of trouble.

    4. Busted!!! Now you've resorted to copying off of another blog. Hilarious!! The above was put on a very argumentative blog on Oct 23rd and now "copied" to this blog to somehow think they're making a point. And now let me clarify a couple of things for you on the above. The girl told a teacher who picked her up at the same time this was taking place that Corey did not hit her. Corey said she exited the vehicle before he could get it stopped, seems they were having an argument which knowing the two of them was probably over another girl, and now the above "copied" said he drove off while she was getting out of the car. I believe she did have some skint or busted up knees. All of this is beside the point and not what this blog started over. But I do understand why you negative people keep this going. Once you step into a pile of well let me just say "poop" you've got to do everything you can to clean up those boots.

    5. If this post is true and she either left the vehicle or was pushed out while the car was moving, she is lucky to be alive, much less only "skint" knees.

    6. Shoalanda, I'd say your "anonymous" critic just outed himself as Corey Griffin, or someone extremely close to him from high school.

@Anonymous, I count only three blogs that have touched on this man's problems and his problems are news. He's on the police's radar now, so you would do well to "advise" your friend to shape up. Just some free advice.

    7. Man, I guess this South Bound guy represents the intelligence level it takes, or perhaps deteriorates to, when you are a regular follower of Shoalanda's blog!
There are MANY supporters of Corey Griffin throughout the Shoals and especially at UNA and several have posted here under the tag "anonymous". Most prefer not to use their real names or any identifier because:
      1. The author of this journalistic trash rag does not do so
      AND
      2. Do not want to be associated on any identifiable way with this slander and KNOW the truth.
From what I understand, Corey and his family was advised by a lawyer not to respond to such "allegations", or in other words to rise above those like "Shoalanda"

  6. Wow. Just think this guy Corey needs a ride and the only person in the Shoals he can think to give him one is either a person who he rapes or who falsely accuses him of rape. That wouldn't be counting any pals who were also drunk and couldn't drive. Some friend he is.

  7. Let me touch on all of these one at a time. What blog? You should know, it was copied word for word except for the last sentence which said something to the fact that let's see what happens in court. We all know the answer to that. Her leaving the vehicle, well he was driving and the "Jeep" was stopping at a stop sign so we're not talking about 60mph folks. Ok that was the first two so let's skip to King of Leon. If you read what I've read that was part of Corey's defense, you would know she wasn't just picking him up for a ride home. And believe me by her own words she was ready to start "now". Ok so let's go back to the one I skipped. Ding, ding, ding, you won the prize. I'm not Corey Griffin since the last time I checked I am of the female gender but I am extremely close and that is the ONLY reason I'm following this...whatever you folks want to call what you're doing...news, slander, blog blabbering. So that being said I have a "proposition" for you kind folks. You disclose your true identity and I'll be glad to disclose mine. I've seen the proof to backup what I've said about this case, have you? And wow Mr. South Bound are you a cop because your free advice sure sounds like a threat to me.
