Crystal Huddleston Wins Probation

Crystal Sutton Huddleston has won probation after pleading guilty to embezzling at least 41K from the Colbert County 911 office. We agree this was the appropriate sentence for a crime of this nature; however, we do wonder why Allison Paige McWilliams was similarly tried in Colbert County and sentenced to 15 years in prison for embezzling 16K from the Cherokee Library. We have decided those looking for rhyme or reason for most sentencing in the Shoals are chasing irrationality incarnate.

In case any of our readers has been living under a rock, we'll briefly mention that Alabama now has a law targeted at illegal immigration. Notice the word "illegal" in the previous sentence. Those who have immigrated here legally from Mexico, Majorca, or Mozambique should have no fears. Those who are here illegally should be concerned enough to either leave or make an attempt to become legal...no hurt feelings.

That is unless you count the Federal government. It seems several Federal agencies including the Justice Department are holding a Birmingham meeting with immigrants to discuss health services, fair housing, civil rights, education, food assistance, and other services with immigrants. Now, if we could just convince the Feds to care as much about Alabama citizens...

  1. Well, once again the hypocrisy which IS the embodiment of those on the radical right shows itself clearly in this blog post.
You are asking for FEDERAL help for Alabama citizens in regarding to illegal immigrants YET out of the other side of your political mouth, one of your spokesman (Eye of Newt) is mockingly calling the President a Food Stamp president. Do you want Alabama legal citizens to have FOOD STAMPS from the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, the same government you tea types rail against?
Hypocrisy of republicans know no bounds!

  2. No one at this blog is asking for Federal help. We do ask that any help the Federal government thrusts upon us is for legal residents. A private organization may help whom they wish; the Federal gov't is supported with our tax dollars and should never serve illegal immigrants while the needs of its own citizens are unmet.

    1. So, you and the staff at Shoalanda SUPPORT assistance for those in need through government funded programs such as Food stamps? How about medicaid, medicare, and assistance with housing?
I realize in your twisted mind (s) you did not realize the slippery slope you edged to in this post, but by advocating for ANY type of government assistance for those in poverty (even with the qualifier of being legal citizens) you are supporting a Democrat position and in perilous danger of having the tea bags removed from your radical right hats as Republicans.
Once again, your hypocrisy comes shining through.

    2. We can't speak for all "Republicans." BTW, Medicare is not in the same league with the others you mentioned. It's funded by payments the recipient paid throughout their working life...or should be. If it comes up lacking, it's because the program has been overseen poorly, as are most gov't programs.

  3. Maybe before making assumptions and comparing Mrs. Sutton-Huddleston Mrs. McWilliams you should look at prior convictions. That always plays a role in any judges decision. Maybe you should try to get the whole story from Mrs. Huddleston instead of listening to people who just like to stir crap, or writing whatever you feel about a situation without getting ALL the facts!!

    1. The whole story is she stole the money. It is not just a "story" it is the FACT!!! She knows she did it and she pled guilty to it. Get whatever story you want from Mrs. Huddleston and while you are at it ask her the real amount taken. And why if she wasnt guilty she just didnt take it to a trial? Better yet ask her how easy it was for her to cover it up and what makes her different from any other criminal on the streets? She should have spent some time in jail. The people of Colbert County should have had a say in this because it was their tax dollars she was out spending.

    2. The TD did not report the amount. Supposedly the forensic audit uncovered more than the original 40K...closer to 100K. Obviously, it will taker her longer to repay it than it took her to spend it.

  4. The plea was approved by the district atty and did not come from the judge. We're aware that Mrs. McWilliams had some bad checks in her past. Still the amounts can't compare, and neither can probation compare with 15 years.

Please (everyone) refrain from vulgar language in your comments. We hate not to publish relevant comments, but using this kind of language does not make you look more intelligent.

  5. @SS - "thrusts upon us"? - Please tell me you're not saying you don't want the money the federal gov't gives Alabama. Be careful what you say you don't want thrust upon your state. Anon is right. Republicans want to pick and choose.

  6. I say keep the federal government out of our business and let them keep their money. They take so much money out of our paychecks, but they waste more money than they spend wisely. As for the probation, for stealing the 41K; I say that is not enough. I think there should be some jail time. I work for the government as a bookkeeper, and I could never steal....it's just wrong to steal period, but steal from the public, after they worked so hard to pay your salary and retirement, wrong wrong wrong. We are public servants. There to serve not steal. In the Williams case maybe it went to trial, you always see less time given if you accept a plea, and not waste taxpayer money on a trial.

    1. THE ABOVE is the mentality of those who subscribe to the radical right wing republican politics. It is funny to see the ignorance of statements like "keep the federal government out of our business and let them keep their money" but the tragedy is these statements are made by those who have no idea how their lives are impacted by the programs from the federal government: not just those that attempt to help the poor.
Try building an interstate, generate your own electricity or building another Wilson Dam on your own then Mr. or Mrs. Teabagger!
SHEESH! And these people actually can VOTE! America is TRULY a democracy, even to our detriment!

    2. HILARIOUS!!
This "anonymous" WORKS for the government BUT "says" keep the federal government "out of our business"
Does this mean you will "donate" or "refuse" your government "paycheck" ?
A SHINING example of the mentality of the radical right wing and "shoalanda" did not censor it!!
I don't know whether this proves to be ironic or just stupidity on the part of the Shoalanda staff. It certainly does not speak well for the reasoning ability of the "teabaggers"

  7. And with "shoalanda's" reply concerning the country's semantic existence, the ONLY way to wrap this whole thing up is to go back to "shoalanda's" original statement regarding "entitlement" programs and the one that "shoalanda" considers "earned":
Seen printed on a sign at a Tea Party Rally:
KEEP THE GOVERNMENT OUT OF MEDICARE!
    (These are YOUR people!)

  8. Ok Anon you need to read the Constitution of this great republic. There in the constitution are the things which the federal government are responsible for and the list is pretty simple and pretty short! The majority of issues the federal government concerns itself with today (and what they waste so much time and money on just to court a certain voting block) is not the responsibility of the federal government. We have become a lazy entitlement group of people as a whole and if thats what the majority wants then I guess that is what we will end up with. But don't cry to me when the well runs dry and we are all living in poverty like a third world country. It can happen. The government cannot creat wealth but they can suppress it.

  9. I think the difference here are those of us that actually have to pay income tax to the federal government, and those of us who are the 43% of americans who no longer have to pay federal income tax. If you do not have to pay taxes and you are able to get money from the goberment too, why would you want things to change? But when you get a little older like me, and are making a little more money than you did when you were younger, and have to start paying 29% of your income in taxes, you might feel differently. I no longer think there is much hope for our country. The folks who are not paying taxes are going to always vote for the progressives so they will continue to get goberment handouts. I think it's to late for this country. People have long since forgotten about the pre civil war days when each state took care of itself and each state was a country unto itself, like Europe. Sure slavery was wrong in the south and child labor in the north was wrong too; but the civil war was mostly about the south wanting to stay as separate countries and the north wanting us to unite into one country. When federal taxes first went into law, they were for the military and roads, period. All of this other stuff has been added on, and soon our country will fall and we will have to begin again. Now we know why the United States does not exist in the book of revelations in the bible. We will no longer exist folks. It's time to stop criticizing others beliefs, our problems are just too serious now. And just so you know, we are in a depression and have been in a depression for quite a few years now. We've been lied to.

  10. Unfortunately, when you work for the State, or Federal Government you get to see all the ways your taxpayer money is wasted. It's hard to watch. All I can do is work hard and try to make things better. I myself am stuck in my government job, as I am close to retirement age. And yes I will retire with 65% of my income. It's the choice I made many years ago when I was young. I still have to feed my family. Government jobs do not always pay so much, but you get a retirement plan that more than makes up the difference. By my accepting my government salary, I don not have to accept the corruption I see every day; it is pure evil. The public has no clue what really goes on. No one should have the ability to steal thousands of dollars, there could and should be safeguards in place.
