It’s “all about we?” Really? At least place “we” in quotes. We will assume that Listerhill wants its customers to have jobs, and we can assure you they won’t have the best ones if they speak that way.
And your advertising man? Even if he should be a good friend of ours, and we have no idea who he is, that is a horrible slogan. So here’s the term for today:
Idiot Savant: a person who is considered to be mentally handicapped but displays brilliance in a specific area, especially one involving memory.
We know some who qualify for this. They have a great aptitude for their jobs, but they don’t want to improve their lives in other says. Well, we have news: It doesn’t work that way. Strive to do better. You can be better, so why don’t you want to?

A friend of ours sent us word about a man who once committed several serious crimes. We have no problem placing that in the man’s past. Yet our message to him, should he be reading and we doubt that he is, is that he can still be a better father. We’re not sure how many kids he does have, somewhere between three and five we understand. So one of your sons is a total jackass? Help him! Don’t be out gallivanting; isn’t that what caused many of your marriage/family problems to start with?
We’ll continue this in the next few days for the woman who’s been seen on FB saying it doesn’t matter what you’ve done in your past. We have news, it does…

Hey, who can tell us Conan O’Brien’s early 90s quote about Scotty Pippin? It’s a hoot!

This is just foolish writing. Correct your typos, and you might want to head on into the 21st century where women work in Advertising as well. The last time I heard the phrase "advertising man" was on an episode of Mad Men.
ReplyDeleteSo was it a typo or foolish writing? We pick foolish writing; guilty as charged. Women work in 99% of all jobs/positions today. We do often use the word "man" as in "mankind." Is this good form? We're voting no and will attempt to avoid this in future. we're thinking we used the word "man" at the time because we had visions of a friend of ours creating the Listerhill pap. Do we love "Mad Men?" Sometimes...
ReplyDeleteBTW, we had a second comment that was unpublishable due to language. We happily post all comments not violating our language/libel/violence policy.
And, Heather, we'll give you half an apology for the one typo we found and fixed (we'll, ahem, blame Firefox). And again, we'll promise to watch out for the pernicious word "man" in our blogs.
ReplyDeleteI didn't write anything that was questionable in language in a second comment. I sincerely hope you aren't attributing that to me. Again, your writing is, at best, quite unclear.
ReplyDeleteMost readers understand a new paragraph indicates a different subject or change in thought. If any did not, no, the second comment was not from heather75.
DeleteI'd say you're a very good writer and I've never had any trouble understanding you. You usually stand up for women and abused children. But when it comes to politics I usually disagree with you.
DeletePolitics? You're certainly entitled to disagree with us; we consider ourselves to be moderates, but some who blog here do border on conservative. Thank you for the kind words on our writing. We do at times assume our readers have read previous blogs when they might not have, so we do promise to link more.
