Meet Carolyn Waterman!

Carolyn Waterman has spent her life giving back, believing hard work and a spirit of volunteerism are essential qualities of good citizenship. A longtime resident of Lauderdale County, Carolyn has never hesitated to roll up her sleeves and work hard to make a difference. As a nurse she cared about the health of her patients, and as a school board member she will care about the health of our schools.

-Registered nurse with an advanced degree in health care management
-Married to Daniel Waterman (retired from IFDC), 4 children and 5 grandchildren
-Three of her children are teachers, as was her mother
-Former U.S. Peace Corps country director in Romania and Fiji and medical officer in Kenya
-Member, St. Michael’s Church, St. Florian
-Firsthand experience with numerous school systems
-Founding member, First Fridays Committee
-President, Shoals On Stage
-Board member, Heritage Preservation, Inc.
-Board member, Shoals American Association of University Women (AAUW)
-Master gardener
-Past president, Downtown Florence Unlimited
-Experienced small business owner and public speaker

I understand how to manage change and plan for the future. As a consensus builder with a sincere desire to serve, I support our teachers and administrative staff, while understanding that need for strong parental involvement. Above all, I support the development of programs that prepare students for productive lives.
