Burglary? Rape/Abuse? Before you say you aren't affected, think about this. In the United States, there's a burglary (home or auto) every 18 seconds. In this country alone, there are 24 instances of rape/abuse every minute, counting victims of both sexes. Does anyone think our country should be proud of this?
The average abuser has at least five victims in his lifetime. By victim five, how does he keep the first four secret from his newest partner? Our theory is that he doesn't keep all of them in the shadows, but describes them as sick women who are out to get him. Apparently this works for some abusers, particularly local ones.
As much as we hammer away about our language policy, our unacceptable behavior also includes libelous statements and threats. Yes, we sometimes have the occasional libelous remark left in our comment section; we promptly remove it. But threats?
In the ten year history of our blog, we've had only one threat made in our comment section. The horrid remark was directed at a young woman who was commenting here and the statement came from Ryan Kent Pollard, the woman's former boyfriend. We were so incensed that he threatened this woman who dared to warn others about him, that we immediately removed the offending statement before grabbing a screen shot. Yet we're sure Pollard remains on the dating scene, telling his latest squeezes how much of a victim he is.
Yes, we're sure Ryan is attempting to snare his latest victim when not breaking and entering the vehicles of those who actually work hard for their money. We somehow missed Pollard's latest arrest earlier this year (mug shot bottom right), but a reader made sure that we didn't miss his indictment last month. The charges include criminal mischief; we infer he's not very adept at his breaking and entering, leaving indelible marks on the vehicle he's burglarizing. The reader who pointed this out to us added that Pollard's half-sister killed herself shortly after his arrest. For that we're sincerely sorry, but we're not sure this is something for which Ryan was directly responsible. As for his other alleged crimes, we hope he's put away for a long time.
This is where we usually warn young women about predatory men. Perhaps this time we'll just warn Shoals homeowners to check out the landscapers you use. One may just come back that night to give your car a thorough once over as well.
