Florence High School Employee & Husband Arrested for Animal Cruelty

Carla Foxx Cannon and her husband Ronald Bart Cannon have been arrested in Lauderdale County on 14 counts of animal cruelty. Carla is reportedly an employee at Florence High School, while Ronald is employed by Belle Foods on Cox Creek Parkway. How did these two come to be charged with these crimes?

According to Debbie Rapphun: "We found skeletons - puppy skeletons adult dog skeletons, so these dogs have been there their entire lives. The ones that weren't strong enough to survive just died there. I hope this will show people out in the community you cannot treat animals this way. It is inhumane. These animals, no matter what people say, do have feelings. They hurt, they're in pain, they're starving, they're scared."

The Cannons had abandoned a home on Lauderdale County Road 182, along with the dogs, who were apparently thrown some food every few weeks. We're going to guess the raccoons and possums ate most of the food within the first two nights of its arrival.

Pictured above is four month old Kinley who has mange, parasites, and various infections. She's currently fighting for her life while being fostered by a vet tech. It took three days to capture all the animals and bring them to the shelter for care. We're guessing we'll never know the full extent of the cruelty these animals endured.

In the mean time, the Cannons remain free to live their lives among us. Sad and horrifying at the same time.

  1. Having been blessed repeatedly with the love and companionship of pets who neither cared about my appearance nor social status, simply wanted to be with me wherever I was and adored me just as I was, it is beyond comprehension that these, by nature, loving creatures were so badly treated. What's further amazing is the knowledge that other dogs, given the opportunity, would adore these people if properly treated. There is so much we can learn from our pets. Cruelty, sadly, seems to be a trait of humans alone.
