Jeff Sessions/Child Porn in Our Midst

Snow? Round one was a quarter inch, and round two was a no-show. No, you can’t breathe out yet; we have ten more weeks of winter to go. Welcome to the south.

Jeff Sessions? The more we read about him, the more problematic he seems. In short, he’s not the saint some would have you believe. Pundits say he will be confirmed as the next US Attorney General, and we hope he is.

Why? Can he dismantle any good laws on the books? We sincerely doubt it. Can he protect citizens from the draining effects of illegal immigration. We believe he can…and that’s why he’s a good choice.

Does the U.S. really need tougher immigration laws? If such laws are anathema, why hasn’t our country placed trade embargoes against Australia and New Zealand, two countries which would love to have your money as a visitor, but wouldn’t give asylum to a person being chased by Sweetwater banshee werewolves.

We do not support child abuse in any fashion, particularly sexual abuse. Yet we know some of these abusers are “mentally ill.” That’s why those who manufacture child porn should be more sternly punished.

A man alone with a child touches him/her? Yes, lock him up (or her), but give him counseling as well. A man takes photos/videos and shares or sells them? That requires several conscious acts and is mainly premeditated.

That brings us to Marcus Paul Smith Jr, recently arrested in Franklin County for producing pornographic images of his girlfriend’s five year-old daughter. What kind of sentence should he expect if he’s convicted of his alleged crimes? If it’s anywhere similar to that of the Ayers couple in Lauderdale County, he will never walk free again.
