From a reader:
Larry McCoy was most recent choice by the City of Florence. FOD (Friend of Dick) Mr. McCoy has very thin ties to tourism and it was a hundred years ago. Let's just hope the choice isn't made until after the City elections. The only elected officials that have even tried to do the right thing when it comes to the board appointments are Fay Parker and Barry Morris. There was one applicant for both the City and County openings with over 25 years of tourism experience including in one of the largest cities in the country. But there was obvious bias and good ole boy objections to the applicant.
Yet the appointing authorities applauded the hiring of Canadian Rob with no executive tourism experience in the USA and for over $35,000 more than they paid the former director who had 20 years of experience in that job alone. And it cost $12,500 to move him to Florence. If the so called powers that be appoints someone before October it will be the same old song with another elderly white man that is a FOD and FOMD (Friend of Mickey/Dewey).
We are glad Sandra Killen Burroughs is running for Mayor of Lexington but it is too bad she won't consider going back on the tourism board as the joint appointment. Those were the good, scandal free days!
Coming soon, we will break down the past board members and their not so extensive tourism background.
For what it is wroth.

Blue Light Vigil
By: Bobby V. Inman
With the recent tragedies against Law Enforcement, several people have decided to show their support and have organized a Blue Light Vigil. This event will be held on July 23, 2016, at the Cowboy Church in Leighton, Alabama. The address for the Church is 3440 Highway 157, Leighton, Alabama 35646. The event will start at 8:30PM.
We ask everyone to bring their friends and families to show support for our local Law Enforcement Officers during these trying times.
Thank you.
“Blessed are the peacemakers:
for they shall be called the children of God”

Last week 5 Dallas police officers were murdered in a horrific ambush. 3 of those officers were recently laid to rest. 2 funerals remain. Historically, we lower the U.S. flag in silent remembrance of such loss. Everywhere across the country flags have been lowered. EXCEPT for the flags flying at Florence's City Hall and the Lauderdale County Courthouse. Shame, shame, shame.

Dajzan Dukes is from Louisville, Kentucky. His bail was $100,000.00. Within a few hours of his arrest, the Kentucky man was free on bond.
Therefore, either two residents of Alabama put up a property bond for Dukes or someone paid a bail bondsman over $10,000.00 he/she will never see again in order to free the young man. Anyone else find this odd?
