Now Jivin' Jackie Can Stand up for District 2

Florence mayor Andrew Betterton recently said that our aluminum horn player is the first thing visitors from the South see as they enter our "beautiful city." Is it?

Above is a recent photo of the WVNA sign at 1 Mitchell Boulevard. We blogged about the condition of this sign nine years ago when it looked like this:

We were told at that time that Councilman Dick Jordan wouldn't touch the sign since it belonged to Mary Jane Darby, the widow of Elton H. Darby.

Now, a local historical Facebook site has called attention to it once again with the first photo. No trees have been trimmed, nothing has been painted, no electronic signs have been repaired.

So, Councilman Hendrix, will you stand up for your district? Or will you just keep jivin'?
