We've mentioned this before, but need to say it again. Using your ancestors' accomplishments as reasons to be elected, hired, or appointed is not logical. In short, it doesn't say much good about you.
Recently when Florence City Council candidate Jackie Hendrix was criticized for refusing to help with a veterans' project, he quickly mentioned a relative who won a Purple Heart. We appreciate his ancestor's service, but somehow we still don't think any more highly of Hendrix (actually we think less).
Now a reader has mentioned one of Charlotte Hill's qualifications for the school board - her parents were educators. Sorry, that's not a qualification for anything Mrs. Hill may wish to do in life.
If you can't mention something you did or accomplished, please don't mention it at all.
