In 2016, Oak Grove Thatch volunteer fire fighter Bobby Wayne Crow (pictured) was arrested on a felony charge in Limestone County. Why? He had been convicted of second degree rape and was answering calls near an elementary school and day care. Fair or not?
Now a similar situation has arisen with the Colbert Heights fire and rescue. State representative Kerry Underwood wants to make it illegal for any convicted sex offender to volunteer as a first responder. He says sex offenders aren't needed.
Recently, the Colbert Heights department has come under fire for not having enough manpower. Should it lose one more?
Our opinion - yes.
And if you live in that area, volunteer. You may not be able to make every call, but you can do something.
