There are currently 30 inmates on Alabama's Death Row who were sentenced by judicial override, a practice made illegal in 2017. A law that would have resentenced these convicted murderers didn't pass during this current legislative session. Next session?
If these 30 individuals do have their death penalties commuted, it will affect two from Northwest Alabama. Pictured above is Christie Scott who has now served over 15 years:
The second Death Row inmate from this area is Thomas Dale Ferguson from Colbert County who shot both Harold and Joey Pugh dead in 1997. The gunman has now served over 25 years awaiting his fate:
