No School Supplies

No School Supplies

A Guest Commentary by

On March 25, 2010, the Florence TimesDaily reported that the House of Representatives just passed a bill on the Alabama Education Budget and it is going to the Senate to be voted on. The article stated: "The Alabama Education Budget will leave no money for school supplies."

I have been told that the Rogersville, Alabama, students are sent home without books and without homework assignments because the teachers cannot afford the photocopy paper to print the homework assignments! This is leading to failing grades and failing students!

On March 25, 2010, the Florence TimesDaily also reported that Alabama is ranked as the number one state with jail-housed criminals per capita. This is an outrage ... Alabama must wake up and help change our State...I feel it all starts with our students...they are our future!

First, I request that people write to our State Senator Jeff Sessions and Senator Richard Shelby and request that they do not pass this education bill. Their websites can be found on the web with an email link. I agree that we must all adopt a school, a class, or student(s) to help stop this lack of education and to help our schools with funding! The teachers should not have to bear the financial responsibility.

Please, let's band together and write to our Senators and ask for help with our Educational Funding.
