Campaigning at the Taxpayers' Expense?

This is taken from Mr. Ed Bowman's Facebook page, with his permission:

Before I even consider voting for someone, I do a very good job of looking into that person. I’ve been fooled too many times before. Let’s take a look at just one for right now.

Sharica Shaw Long for Colbert County Circuit Clerk. Several months ago I went to her campaign Facebook page to understand her stance on different issues and started noticing some things that were odd. Most of her posts were during work hours, at her present job, The Colbert County Revenue Commissioners Office. So, I decided to visit the courthouse on several occasions and see if my suspicions were true, that she was using Revenue Commissioners Office computers 1. On taxpayers time and 2. To advance her campaign.

It has come to my attention that she is indeed using the Revenue Commissioners Office computers for her campaign, and doing it during her work hours. Also has campaign pictures and Republican Women of the Shoals book on her work desk. Not only is this MORALLY WRONG, but it is also AGAINST THE LAW!

I think it is grounds for immediate termination from the Revenue Commissioners Office and also for her to withdraw seeking office for Circuit Clerk. I also think that State Officials need to do a thorough investigation into this, and find out who in the Revenue Commissioners Office knew about this and allowed her to violate our trust! So, I will NOT be voting for Sharica Shaw Long for Colbert County Circuit Clerk.

We understand the gives and takes of a job. Many office workers take their breaks each day or part of their lunch hour at their office computer, checking their e-Bay or even reading blogs. (Goodness!) There's really nothing wrong with that. Some work over without pay, so if they have the need to do other things at a later date while on the clock, we have no problem with that either.

We do have a problem with campaigning at work, with using equipment paid for by taxpayers to run a political campaign against someone who might not have that advantage at his or her job. We thank Mr. Bowman for pointing this out to the voters of Colbert County.

  1. Maybe not the direction Mr. Bowman would consider but isn't it about time we ignore the letter next to the name and start looking at the person? Mr Bowman did LOOK in this case but it may have had something to do with another choice in the republican party. You CAN look at a democrat. Your eyes WON'T bleed or go blind, no matter what you have been told. Deanna Thomas is running as a democrat. She is qualified and has a spotless record. http://www.timesdaily.com/news/local/thomas-running-for-colbert-court-clerk/article_b6d41d24-9e78-5816-aced-50aaa7e856c9.html
