Sheffield Housing Authority Has its Own Problems

Sheffield Housing Authority has removed director Shirley Whitten from her job - at least temporarily. There are many unverified stories surrounding her dismissal, but several seem to center around general employee unrest. We suspect there is a great deal more to the story and will continue to follow this, along with other Sheffield problems.

One accurate story making the rounds involves a myriad of complaints about housing authority golf carts on public roads. Whitten has ostensibly stated the city police are comfortable with this. The ousted director should know these carts violate state law, not city; however, Sheffield Police should be doing its job to enforce all laws. Alas, we know this is an unpopular theory.
