"Karma Served," aka...Brian Martin

Over the years, we've had many readers contact us, some on a regular basis. Many who wrote to us needed help with certain situations, and we've always tried to assist them if possible.

As we mentioned last month, Mr. Brian Lansing Martin was one of these readers. He was always polite and complimentary. He was certainly less so to the police in the city in which he lived - Sheffield.

Brian's property had been vandalized on several occasions, as had his neighbors. He felt the police were not interested in helping even though he had CCTV images of these acts.

Our opinion was that Sheffield is understaffed, and that many of the officers are novices simply looking for a leg up to an agency that pays more. Others appear to be seat warmers who do as little as possible. We never thought that the police had it in for Brian, but we did consider that the police found him to be a nuisance after so many reports. This is never right, but it does happen.

Then early last year (to the best of our recollection), Martin changed his Facebook account to the name "Karma Served." We found this troubling in a minor way, but still saw nothing too sinister about it. Perhaps there was more to this than we imagined at the time.

Also in early 2020, Brian Martin became the victim of a serious theft. Again, he felt that he was let down, this time by the Colbert County District Attorney's office. He turned to the private sector to investigate.

If you've read stories of the SBI investigation into the Southgate Mall shooting, you know at least partially where this is going. More tomorrow...
