"Good Friday" at Calvary Baptist (Courtesy the REB)

It's very unusual, not to mention unethical, for a government organization to give funds to a religious body. Aside from the City of Florence donating to the Salvation Army Church, we can't think of one instance of this in recent memory.

Yet in September 2021, the Russellville Electric Board donated $2,500.00 to the Calvary Baptist Church which Charles Canida reportedly attends. A notation indicates that it's for "Hurricane Relief," but doesn't specify any other particulars.

Why no donations to the Methodist Church? To the Episcopal? To the Church of Christ? To the Muslim Temple? Since when do honest officials play favorites? Since when do church leaders not know this is unethical/illegal?

Now look down the listing (click to enlarge). You see the bonuses for board members? Is Jeff Bowling a board member? No. He's the board's attorney. Attorneys get bonuses?

We need to start our own charity for the ethically impaired...
