HPNA News Release

Regular readers of our blog are aware that we personally support the careful removal of the Confederate Memorial from county property to city property. The memorial is the property of the City of Florence. We also support state law, whether we agree with it or not. Therein lies the problem for many of us.

The Heritage Preservation of North Alabama has asked us to publish this news release. It's particularly of interest at this time, since the state and local election season is heating up. Keep an eye on Lauderdale County.

The release:

Always, HPNA’s only focus is to protect our Southern heritage. That is why we exist and why we do the work we do. HPNA’s website provides information on our ongoing projects, articles and other information. New content is added weekly. Click here: www.hpna-al.com In October 2020 the Madison County Confederate Monument was illegally moved in the dead of night. This week we are seeing fallout from this in the press. Lawmakers who committed this illegal act are being challenged. City, county and state lawmakers and government officials across Alabama are now paying attention. Hopefully, they will think twice before breaking Alabama’s laws and disrespecting our Southern heritage. Attorney General Steve Marshall made this statement last year: “Any elected official who removes a historic monument or statue in violation of the Alabama law has broken the law. He has not simply decided to “pay a fee” so that he can lawfully have the monument or statue removed. He has committed an illegal act.” Attorney General Steve Marshall’s speech - click here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x241-6plkxA HPNA’s membership has grown rapidly this year and includes hundreds of people across North Alabama.
