Misconceptions

Shoalanda Speaks is a conservative political blog. The political opinions expressed herein are those of myself or a guest columnist. The endorsements for candidates made herein are totally based on my conservative philosophy and educational experience. I welcome comments and rebuttal and will not delete any comments unless they contain epithets. I will add that a comment questioning the author’s wisdom or mental state does not carry the weight of one containing actual facts.

Second, it is the intention of this columnist to publish occasional columns on local residents arrested and indicted for serious and/or heinous crimes. I greatly appreciate input from my readers, but unless someone has actually been charged with a crime, they are not public figures and are not appropriate subjects for this blog.

I do grasp the gravity of a minister sexually seducing members of his congregation or problems involving the lack of grandparental rights in this state, but these are for the most part private matters and should remain so unless a law is broken.

If any reader should need advice on the appropriate steps to take in legal matters, I will do my best to refer them to attorneys or agencies that can be of assistance.

As to the content of columns addressing local crime, 95% or more of the data included in these accounts have been published elsewhere on the Internet and are merely being recorded here in a chronological narrative for the benefit of the reader. In other words, my faithful singular critic, I am not relating any information here that cannot be obtained through other public sources.

I hope that this clears up any misconceptions about this blog. It’s about the Shoals; it’s about you. Please continue to submit your story ideas and guest columns.

Many thanks,

Shoalanda

  1. Shoalanda,
I understand what you are saying about the minister and the divorce case and how those to you are viewed as a private matter.Have you ever considered that the people you have been reporting on may in fact be innocent? That you will be responsable for ruining not only their lives but badly embarrassing the familys of these people? I want to see justice done anytime there is a wrong committed, but I think you should strongly consider the things you report. They may be printed elsewhere, but it doesn't make it true.Rest assurred that when these cases are over, the people rsponsable for all the trash talk will most likely be sued for the things they have printed.Identitys will be revealed and responsabilty will have to be taken for it all. How would you feel if that minister were your dad? He could be.Someone who has maybe tried to put his past mistakes behind him and recieve forgiveness from the one it truly counts, Almighty God. Only to have someone who has nothing to do but run him down in public, because they strive on posting opinions so others will see their name in print.Troy King is a prime example of someone who wants everyone to see his name in print.I am sure that Jason Gasque will wind up on Troy's website like McGuire did, like a tropy for all to see. The only problem is that he is the biggest hypocrite of all! He was reportedly caught in bed with his male aide by his wife at their home. He has banned sex toys, made gays feel that they have no rights, all while having this hanging over his head, yet you herald him as the answer for what ails you. Mr. King and all the rest who are treating these people as guilty before getting a trial are going to wish they hadn't. Not because these people are or aren't guilty, but beacause they jumped to try to make a name for them selves. We are all tired of the talk by 4 or 5 dedicated to being first in line to cast the first stone. The glass house is a bad place to live when people throw back. You stated in your column that Ministers were not public officials, well they are and so is the A.G.'s office. How about reporting with a little more fair & balanced view point. It would certainly give you at least a shred of credability.

  2. Well Shoalonda........I guess you have faithful critic #2 as listed in the previous comments. Well said (Justice for all). Shoalonda reminds me of a little girl that was in my first grade class. She was the one to go tattle and relay "what she heard" to the teacher no matter if were true or not.
So again....Shoalonda. Who are you? What is your name? Where do you live? What is your address? We would certainly like to investigate your past. Remember...what's good for the goose is good for the gander".
Again.....what if these people were innocent? Why not allow the families some peace? It seems you do not have as many fans as you think? Remember Shoalonda.....your true identity will be revealed very soon and I'm sure all the folks you have so called "reported" upon will have their say against you in a court of law. Freedom of the speech is a wonderful freedom in our country but that doesn't give me the right to storm into the local movie theater and scream the building is on fire (when it's not). Consequences Shoalonda. Obviously you do not, cannot and will not grasp how hurtful your blogs are to other than the ones you accuse (or in keeping with your opinion - convey other information from other sources).
    Keep on.

  3. Justice, if the minister mentioned by a reader is charged with rape, I will most assuredly report it.

These blogs are not about someone who has put his past behind him. These columns concern individuals currently indicted for crimes.

After they are convicted, or found not guilty, rest assured I would no longer consider them appropriate of interest.

As for Troy King, he has not been charged with any crimes. If he should be, I may or may not address it since it is not a Shoals issue.

I invite you to write a guest column if you have information that you can document. Glad to have you as a reader.

Anderon, thanks for your support. You might be interested to know that I have received several requests to do an article on the current Mayor of Lexington. Again, I have asked for facts. If there are none, I will not report on an "issue."

  6. Dear Shoalanda:

this is a hypothetical questioning comment.....

    what if ..........
the person in question WAS found guilty in a court of law

    or WORSE than that ...

    what if ........
that person MADE A DEAL with prosecutors to avoid a stiff jail penalty .........

what would your #1 and #2 critics and others have to say then?

would either of them EVER admit to doing something they did not do JUST to get a reduced penalty????

i am curious to see who they blame for this possible outcome and whose fault will it be THEN for "embarrassing and ruining the lives of this person and their families?"

someone must have some high connections to be SO SURE OF THE OUTCOME already - and to know how sorry you are going to be about posting any thing about this subject.

do you think maybe there is a crystal ball involved?
Hey, could you see if they can tell you who is going to win the super bowl? i am not a gambling person, but if i knew it was a sure thing i might be persuaded to take a bet on a SURE THING, especially in the economic times we are in now...

i dont know how you are sleeping at night with all these menacing threats you are receiving on your blog in the case of "who is shoalanda, really."

    i have another question:
have your top two critics mentioned ANY concern for the real victim here?
you know....the 16 year old MINOR who is protected by a SILLY little thing called the LAW.

and what about peace for her and her family?
do you think they are having a good old time waiting for the outcome of this case?
put yourself in their shoes for one second...
do you have a daughter, a sister, or how about a mother most of us have one of those...
how would you feel if someone did what has been ALLEGED.... to your family member?
would you be able to sleep in PEACE at night or would you be in a living nightmare that will NEVER end even when the case has been dealt with in the court system....
have you ever stopped for one moment to think about that viewpoint?

it sounds to me like your two critics have already tried and convicted the girl who brought the charges against the teacher - without her ever having her day in court

is this not what they are griping on you about repeatedly?

and talking about reporting things here because they are printed elsewhere does not make them true....
i hope that the comment one of your critics made about AG troy king REPORTEDLY being caught in bed ....is a sworn affidavit from a court tried case....
and not something they read in an article of trash talk.
because that would be another case of i have the right to say what i want but you can't because the two critics say so.......

funny how some people want you to be patient and hold your tongue until freedom rings for the teacher....

but that sounds like what is good for the goose is NOT good for the gander to me

sounds like two sets of rules

one for the critics and one for you

funny when someone wants to be able to rant and rave their ASSUMING OPINION at you on YOUR own blog which states that this is YOUR OPINION and to lambast you for YOUR opinion being the WRONG one because their OPINIONS are the only ones that matter.

And yes you HAVE TO post the opinions and threats of the only two people with the right of freedom of speech and the only two people whose opinion matter for all to read on YOUR blog whether you want to or not.
Or else they may come after you with something more than promises of a slander/libel lawsuit on behalf of a person other than themselves....

in today's world of sue sue sue...
you might have a case of your own..
IF you were allowed to think for yourself .

    - which sadly, your top two critics have both told you that you do not have that right
    - even here in the good old USofA.
Did america gain freedom from england for the right of freedom of speech or did i dream it?

    another thought.....
if they are so gung ho on the idea of "shed the light"
i wonder why they dont post all of the information they are DEMANDING YOU GIVE THEM.

they seem to like the anonymity that the screen name gives them as well...
another - we can do it but you cant deal....

when are you going to learn shoalanda?

    and last but not least,
i have not heard you yell fire yet...
but i know i will hear you say it before it is all said and done, because the people who seem to have all the answers can NEVER BE WRONG and you will do what they demand or you will be sorry -

i dont think i misunderstood that threat in their comments.

Now remember you need to print things from their more fair and balanced viewpoint to give yourself at lease a shred of credibility.

another thing to keep you awake at night.

i am patiently waiting to see what comes out in the wash.....

  7. Thanks, "You Can't..."

As for your very astute line of reasoning, did you know that the victim in the Keith McGuire rape case has had police protection? How do you think her family feels about all this?

It's sad that she can't comment until after the trial, and I'm sure the same is true for the 16 year-old at Speake.

I'm anxious to see your blog up and running. I'll link it.
