The month of March has been filled with stories of political, hospital, and school malfeasance and intrigue. Unfortunately, we put the story of child torture/abuse by a Colbert County school employee on the back burner. Now, Lorinda Dawn McCollister has been arrested.
The 49 year-old Littleville woman has used the name Lorinda Adams and Lorinda Morris in the past. She's previously lived in several North Dakota locations, as well as Louisiana. Before her job with Colbert Heights High School, she worked at Belmont Community Spirit Bank.
McCollister's Facebook page is filled with photos of her husband and family. We're not sure how large her litter is, but photos usually include five to seven little ones. Now Colbert County has indicted Lorinda on five charges of harming one or all of her brood. Jail records indicate Lorinda spent a total of 35 minutes in the nick before posting 75K bond.
This is a developing story, but in the meantime, below is the letter we had previously received from a concerned parent:
I was recently informed that the secretary at Colbert Heights High School has lost custody of her children due to allegations of abuse. Despite this serious situation, she has been allowed to continue working at the school for over two weeks since her children were taken into custody.
I have been made aware that a board meeting is scheduled for tomorrow, though I am uncertain of the exact time. As a concerned stakeholder, I, along with others, would appreciate clarification on whether her termination will be discussed during this meeting. It is deeply concerning to me that someone facing such serious allegations is still allowed to be in contact with children, including my own, within the school environment.
I find it disappointing that this situation has been allowed to continue and would urge a thorough investigation into the matter. Additionally, I understand her husband works as a trainer at the Union Hall on 72 in Tuscumbia.
Please look into this as a matter of urgency. I was also told this helped the attorney with his decision to withdraw from the Colbert County Board of Education.
