Please Do Not Desecrate the U.S. Flag!

Please do not desecrate the U.S. Flag. Please honor the flag code. If you're unsure about flying flags at half-staff right now, especially on public property, here's the rule from usa.gov:

The United States flag flies at half-staff (or half-mast) when the nation or a state is in mourning. The president, through a presidential proclamation, a state governor, or the mayor of the District of Columbia can order flags to fly at half-staff. Most often, this is done to mark the death of a government official, military member, or first responder; in honor of Memorial Day or other national day of remembrance; or following a national tragedy.

Private individuals may fly the flag at half-staff, but this is still frowned upon. Please respect our country's most prominent emblem. Your treatment of the flag says a lot about what kind of person you are.

Governor Ivey has declared the day of Sgt. Nick Risner's funeral to be the designated day of mourning in the state and the only day to fly a lowered flag. We don't know the date for Sgt. Risner's services at this time, but will post when the information is available.

Thank you for respecting both Sgt. Risner and our flag.

  1. Sgt. Nick Risner is the second Sheffield officer to lose his life in the performance of official duties. The first was my great-grandfather, Sheffield Chief of Police, B.B. Cox, in February 1938. May God bless Sgt. Risner's family and his department. 10-7, Brother.

  3. Lowering The Flag for anyone OTHER THAN Military, LEO, Firemen, First Responders, or government officials is DISRESPECTFUL of The Flag.

    1. We remember when Gov. Christie lowered the flag for Whitney Houston. It did come as quite a surprise.

  4. I remember all Flags being ordered lowered for 'mass shooting' victims. THAT is a desecration of The Flag.
