We've seen men so ingratiating they could charm a rattlesnake with shingles into submission. Then we've seen them go home and beat their partners so badly their own mothers couldn't recognize them. If you don't think it's a problem here in the Shoals, you should volunteer with a women's shelter one weekend.
Can wife beaters be rehabilitated? We don't want to place all men charged with domestic violence in the same chamber pot, but unfortunately most do reoffend.
31% are arrested on new charges within one year.
44% are arrested on new charges within two years.
75% are arrested on new charges within five years.
So you may get your slings and arrows ready, but we have no sympathy for wife beaters. We're not surprised at any outrageous actions they're capable of. In other words, if you're a wife beater with a hangnail, don't come to us unless you want us to tell you what we really think of you.
From a Psychologist friend: 'Most abusers are narcissists and usually suffer from anti-social behavioral issues. While the incidents of abuse that they inflict may diminish with age, they are incapable of stopping completely.'
