Problems at New Bethel School

This is a GREAT school, 'up on the mountain', in Colbert County. However, last winter's floods washed out a section of county road that parents/buses used to get students to school. Parents from the extreme outer, west end of Tuscumbia have been forced to detour through Cherokee in order to get to school. This added 1 HOUR to the drive. Now the kicker: Colbert County Road Department is apparently relying on grant money to fix this issue. Grant money. Are there no contingency funds for things like this?

How about it, Colbert County Commission? Isn't this just a little bit of an emergency? Hey, here's an idea: If the grant falls through, perhaps you could ask Santa Claus. It seems in line with your game plan...

A Resignation or Just Wagging the Dog?

An AL.com writer has suggested Gov. Robert Bentley should resign if he has been using public facilities to carry on an extra-marital affair. Has he indeed been doing as much?

The allegations come at an interesting time. Is someone wagging the dog or is our Mr. Meek leader really a Lothario at heart?

On the home front, no one locally has resigned, but we understand more spouses are turning up for various meetings.

Is New Bethel School now saved? We congratulate them on their 100th anniversary and hope the current Colbert superintendent doesn't make any more of his infamous command decisions before his term is over.

How to Oust Colbert County Supt. Anthony Olivis

Several have contacted us concerning the possibility of removing Anthony Olivis from his elected position. The easiest way would be to ensure he resigns under pressure. Would he?

Simply acquire system financial statements for the month before he took office two years ago and the current month. If the system has lost the millions as reported to us, take out a full page ad in the Courier Journal and publish copies of the statements (it shouldn't be that expensive). This should bring down the wrath of enough Colbert citizens on Olivis' head to force him to take some action.
