Billy Ray Simpson Disses the Animals

Florence mayoral candidate Billy Ray Simpson says he will put humans before animals. Just where in this small town are animals put first? Perhaps he means animals have a shelter (which is required by law for the benefit of everyone), and humans don't (thanks mainly to Dick Jordan who always opposed one).

Yet, Simpson goes farther:

No where in our Bible does it say not to love animals. How about yours?

Perhaps Simpson could tell us what "rights" the City of Florence has given animals?

Here again Simpson tells us not to love animals. What kind of man is he...and Andy as well?

Here he says it's all right to like animals, but not to love. Has Simpson ever owned a puppy or kitten?

Finally, he expresses his opinion on kissing your babies and star boarders. So much mental illness and so few shrinks to go around.

Anyone out there actually voting for the man who calls himself "reverend?"

Billy Ray Simpson "Names" Shooter

The Florence shooting that took place at Southern Oaks Village Apartments has been shrouded in mystery. The initial press releases were so convoluted that it appeared to some that as many as four or more individuals may have been involved. We had called it a triple-cross, when in fact it may have been only a double-cross at worst.

We don't know if Florence Police are still actively seeking any information on a fourth party who may have been involved, but it appears the alleged fourth party in Facebook "gossip" was the seller himself. What do we know about him?

Florence mayoral candidate Billy Ray Simpson has published a photo of the shooter; we're covering his face here with a rabbit silhouette (it is the Easter season after all). We'll simply refer to him as "M." He is 22, and therefore not a juvenile. Simpson has announced that the FPD should have arrested M and not the 17 year-old Russellville athlete.

It's entirely possible that Florence Police may arrest M at a later date (after the autopsy results are in); however, Simpson's constant criticism of Chief Michael Holt is very unbecoming.

Should Simpson call for Holt's termination? Who would replace him? This is an extremely poor political platform. It's also unethical to publish a photo of someone the FPD has, at least for now, called the victim in an unfortunate crime.

Second guessing the police chief isn't the best of form.

Really?

Get Your Billy Ray Simpson Brooms Here!

Who cares about Pickett, Tyler, McCoy, or Griffin? Ambassador Billy Ray Simpson has brooms for all the Florence ladies. It doesn't matter if you're black or white, there's no charge for one of his special straw flying implements.

We don't know how the rest of the Florence females feel, but it's never been our highest hope to be called a witch...no matter how it's pronounced. In the meantime, other candidates are getting down to work!

Billy Ray Simpson Asks If FPD Chief Holt Needs to be Fired

Billy Ray Simpson is running for mayor of Florence. For years, Mr. Simpson has called himself a "reverend," whatever that may mean. The term certainly isn't in the Bible.

Then Simpson morphed into the Apostle Billy Ray. Does someone who doesn't know the meaning of the word "apostle" need to be elected to any city or other office?

At some recent point, Simpson began calling himself "Ambassador." We have no idea where this came from, but apparently it refers to the Florence Police Department. Perhaps it's because he knows the name of Martin Park?

Earlier this week, Simpson made a Facebook video criticizing the very department he professes to represent. He mentioned the possibility that some officers and even Chief Michael Holt needed to be fired. Obviously, Simpson knows more about the sad events at Southern Oaks Village than the police do...ahem.

We have two questions for Candidate Simpson:

1. Have you asked the Florence Police if the 13 year-old Colbert Heights student had any previous encounters with law enforcement in our city?

2. As for the 17 year-old being falsely incarcerated, are you not familiar with the law? Anyone taking part in a felony which results in a death may be charged with murder.

Simpson has twice run for mayor and once stood for the District 2 council seat. He lost all three races and he will lose this August. The sad thing is he's now sowing seeds of discord in the community with a false narrative.

If he really wanted to help, he would ask the public to assist in finding any more youths who took part in the alleged triple-cross crime.

Florence Candidate #4: Billy Ray Simpson

Billy Ray Simpson has used several titles over the years; the most recent appears to be ambassador. The Florence government critic is 73 years-old and a frequent speaker at council meetings. The man who identifies as preacher, teacher, and reacher is the founder of First Love Ministries which works with inmates at the Lauderdale County Detention Center.

In 2020, Simpson ran for the District 2 seat, but was defeated by long-time representative Dick Jordan. He resides on West Alabama Street and has applied to replace the retiring District 2 member. Simpson is reportedly one of the two front runners in the five person contest to finish out this five year term.

Whether Mr. Simpson is selected or not, his work with the area's less desirables is to be commended.

The Next Mayor of Florence? - Part II

Billy Ray Simpson is one of three Florence candidates seeking the office of mayor on August 28th. He has no website, but we'll present his vision for the city in his own words excerpted from a TimesDaily interview:

“We need someone who can keep the council in line and doing what they are elected to do. I see other people (on the council) wanting to be the mayor who were not elected mayor. I can be a little tougher than this mayor, even though he is a wise man.

“Areas east and west of downtown still need help. They need businesses. The west side of town has no fast-food restaurants or people that compete for business. When you have to go too far to shop, it makes it hard on people. They spend more money getting there than they should have to.

“Jobs allow them to become good fathers and family members. Training programs are an important part of getting good jobs. We already have companies on board with us to provide that only intoxicant that occurs naturally, something created by God.

“Experience has taught me that some laws should be changed when they are not good for the majority of people. It’s (marijuana) coming in from other places and they are putting things on it that make people hallucinate. We can’t regulate that now.”

*****

Obviously Mr. Simpson has some interesting viewpoints. We didn't know the mayor of Florence could regulate or deregulate marijuana or any other controlled substances...
