More Proof that ALFA is as Crooked as...

It is six months until qualifying for the 2026 state elections officially ends. Any number of candidates might come forward to announce before January 23rd.

These candidates could be Republican, Democratic, Independent, or even the ghost of Ronald Reagan. It's not going to matter to ALFA. That group of scalawags has already made its choice.

Yes, on Thursday, ALFA officially endorsed current U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville for our next governor. Tuberville was naive enough to admit he had met privately with the lowlifes from ALFA. What promises were made is anyone's guess.

Isn't it time to toss ALFA in the dustbin with AEA?

The Fight to Bring Down ALFA

The fight to end ALFA's hold over the Alabama legislature began several years ago, but it really took off in 2021. Sadly, ALFA's money talked, and many legislators readily admitted it.

Next month brings a new legislative session, and new protests against the animal-hating insurance giant. February 5th will mark the biggest protest against ALFA and the Alabama Farmers Federation to date. Don't you want to be there?

If you can't be there, we'll be helping to keep you informed. If you want to go, contact: dean70hawkins@gmail.com.

Formerly One of ALFA's Favorite Agents - Christie Michelle Bray Scott

It was approximately two months before the inception of our blog that Christie Michelle Bray Scott murdered her older son Mason, a six year-old first-grader in Russellville. We're not using the word "allegedly" here, since Scott was convicted of the crime:

Christie Bray Scott

Scott resided in Franklin County with her husband and two sons, but was the daughter of a Winston County insurance agent. By all reports, she had the experience, contacts, and personality to be a very successful insurance agent herself. This is exactly what she was for ALFA when she murdered her son.

At the time of Scott's indictment and arrest two months after the crime, her face still adorned several billboards in Franklin and Marion Counties. Those who knew of the crime had for weeks asked ALFA in Montgomery to remove the advertising from the area, but to no avail.

Those who complained were not given even the courtesy of a response - sound familiar? The billboards remained until it was time to renew their lease. Only then were they replaced with something less offensive.

If ALFA thought so little of the life of Mason Scott, why should we expect the insurance leviathan to worry about the many animals who freeze to death each year in Alabama?

"Canceling" ALFA - Part II

The state of Alabama has always been behind the rest of the country; in many ways, much of its economy is still based on farming. The Alabama Farmers Federation carries a big stick and preaches that animals are for utilitarian purposes only. A dog is to guard the home or round up livestock; a cat is to rid the premises of vermin. Nothing more. ALFA puts its money behind these soulless rationales. After all, if you have to give a dog a warm house for winter, you just might be made to furnish your cows stereo headphones - that's what ALFA preaches.

ALFA gives big money to politicians who follow its orders, and that's a great many in this state. Of all the pols to toe the ALFA line, Danny Crawford of Athens is at the top of the list.

Now Crawford's been caught saying that ALFA virtually rules the legislature when it comes to animal welfare. How do you like that, those of you who love and care for the lesser ones among us? If ALFA rules one Alabama domain, it would follow that other interests in the state are run by similar unscrupulous companies. Is this what we want for Alabama?

The only way to win with ALFA is to hit the company's bottom line. Drop your ALFA insurance now. We'll be happy to publicize any other insurance companies that contact us. If you're a local insurance agent, we'll be here to help you get your message out there.

The move to cancel ALFA began two years ago. It's still gaining momentum. Just watch, Montgomery...

"Canceling" ALFA - Part I

What would you say to someone who stated: Jane Medico is a wonderful woman, a homeroom mom, a Girl Scout leader, and a master gardener. She just happens to work the intake desk at a clinic that aborts fetuses? Most in this state at least would think Jane needs a new line of work.

How about this one: John Agent is a wonderful man, a Sunday school teacher, and the proud dad to five puppers. He just happens to work for ALFA, a company that fights any lifesaving measures for companion animals? (We actually heard that one last week.)

So it's wrong to work for the big bucks at an abortion clinic, but okay to work for the big bucks as an ALFA agent? We're sure some will say yes since they regularly support suspect religious organizations that occasionally do a good work.

For those of you who don't want to support an organization that consistently fights against animal welfare, isn't it time to find a new insurance company?

Addressing an ALFA Agent's Misstatements

A reader, presumably new, has asked two local ALFA agents about our Facebook profile icon:

Image may contain: text that says 'say NO TO ALFA INSURANCE'

Agent M replied:

Left wings that dont like farmers to raise chickens, pigs and cows for food

First, if there are any left-wing bloggers here, we don't know about it. Most lean to the right.

Second, while we can't speak for all our writers, as far as we know most eat meat. No one here has any objection to humanely raised food.

So why do we, and many othrs, oppose ALFA? This article says it best:

If Agent M would like to debate the author of that article, we can arrange that. In the meantime, let's see if he apologizes for calling our bloggers left wing.

Why Does ALFA Have Over 330K Members?

A recent article in Yellowhammer News mentioned that ALFA (Alabama Farmers Federation) has over 330,000 members. While the article didn't elaborate on how this dubious organization grew into the octopus it has become, we're happy to tell you.

Buy insurance from ALFA? Check your bill. Membership in ALFA is in the small print somewhere. We've never used ALFA, but we're told there is an option to avoid membership in that nefarious group of lobbyists.

Better yet, just say no to ALFA altogether. Never in the organization's history has ALFA ever supported one bill that made the lives of animals any better. As far as ALFA is concerned, you could beat your cocker spaniel daily and that would be perfectly fine.

There are many, many great insurance companies out there. Isn't is time to just say NO to ALFA?

UNA Aligns with ALFA

ALFA is well known for its support of animal abuse in this state. The insurance giant opposes any anti-cruelty law that comes before the legislature. Why?

ALFA's position is that once a law is passed to protect companion animals, it's only a short step to enforcing the same law apply to farm animals. We certainly all know of goats and pigs who are chained to trees in the hot sun and freezing cold. No, wait. We don't know of any such animals because there aren't any. Dogs make up 99.9% of the animals in the state who are cruelly made to suffer in all kinds of weather.

ALFA's actions don't seem to matter to the University of North Alabama which has entered into a kind of compact with the malicious organization. ALFA will be, presumably, offering financial assistance to its employees who attend UNA. What UNA will be getting in return is anyone's guess. Yes, the press release was that nebulous (Apologies to the extremely accomplished author. We know you have to write what you're told.)

The bottom line would seem to be that UNA is willing to support ALFA in return for financial gain. Is anyone surprised?

There will soon be a new legislative session in the state. Many are prepared to fight ALFA in every arena concerning its malevolent actions harming animals. If the company thinks it suffered financially last year, just wait until the next session if it opposes much needed animal welfare bills.

Why the Byrne Endorsements?

There's still time for several more entrants into the U.S. Senate race. Will Jeff Sessions toss his chapeau into the fray? That would certainly be a game changer.

Yet even before John Merrill officially entered the race, several Alabama mayors endorsed U.S. Congressman Bradley Byrne. Why? Surely, it's not his bold stance on any issues...he gets more mediocre every day.

Many pundits are now saying Merrill is the one to beat in this race. It could be worse - Will Ainsworth, the drunken tiger thief himself, could have decided to try his luck.

Where is Ray in all this? You know Ray, the candidate formerly known as Roy. We shudder to think of the shenanigans that await us, the sentient voters of this state.

Be Sure to Run Into Your ALFA Agent Today

Have you caught Yellowhammer News lauding ALFA insurance? Yes, the same insurance that lobbies against any animal welfare in this state. If you haven't visited that "news site" recently, you might be surprised at some of its reporting. Yes, according to those in the know, much is bought and paid for, and we highly suspect the ALFA alliance is also.

"A Few" Dead Dogs? Thank ALFA

Two years ago, a bill was before the Alabama Senate that would have outlawed puppy mills. If you aren't sure what a puppy mill is, think a big business where registered canines are forced to breed several times a year, live their lives in cramped conditions, and never see love in their short, pathetic lives.

Thanks to five senators who sold their souls to ALFA (not a rare occurrence in this state), the bill never made it into law. Last week the results of this inaction were brought home to roost in a dilapidated chicken house.

Sheila Johnson and her daughter own a "working farm" in Vinemont just outside Cullman. Last week a fire rapidly raged through the dilapidated chicken house used to shelter the caged animals and free-roaming birds from whom Johnson made her living. Not surprisingly, most of the birds escaped; rabbits, dogs, and other small animals not able to move more than a few inches in their cages did not.

How many died? Johnson says in one interview that "a few" dogs lost their lives. Later she says the number ranged from 50 to 100, all of whom she claims were working farm dogs. Of course they were working - they were breeding more of themselves for Johnson to sell.

Cullman County Animal Control had been called to investigate the conditions of the property more than once and will now be looking into the circumstances surrounding the fire. So far, no word from the five men who made this possible.

Of the five 2017 state senators who voted against regulating puppy mills in this state, only Clay Scofield and Shay Shellnutt are still in office. Voters need to remember these two men during the next election cycle.

All of us should remember ALFA/ALFA Insurance and its vice-like grip on our Senate. Let's hurt them where it hurts, and that's not the switchboard. That's in the pocketbook which should become a lot lighter after customers become aware of the latest results of the Federation's intrusion into animal welfare in this state.

Do Good & Save Money: Dump ALFA Insurance!

Alabamians across the state are switching from ALFA insurance to a more humane choice. That's not all, according to several who have contacted us, they're saving tons of money on the same coverage. That's called a Win-Win.

Here's what one reader from Tuscaloosa said:

I just changed from Alfa to USAA on Tuesday. I have full coverage on my 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. It saved me $350 per 6 months plus added roadside assistance, gap coverage & death benefits. I'm even more glad I did it now.

If that isn't enough to make you want to change your insurance carrier, we also read a story that would have been humorous if it hadn't been so true. It seems a farm family filed some sort of claim, its first ever after many years of paying premiums. When the agent came to resolve the claim, he spotted a dog behind the fence and immediately told the family to "get rid" of the pit bull or face immediate cancellation. The dog? It was a Boston Terrier.

There are approximately ten ALFA agents in Lauderdale, Colbert, and Franklin Counties. Let's see if we can't at least whittle that number down a little. Who knows, some day they might just thank a caring public for forcing them into an honest line of work.

Abused Child? Abused Dog?

What’s the difference between an abused child and an abused dog? Most individuals won’t see any, but the Alabama Farmers’ Federation (ALFA) does. That wonderful organization thinks Alabamians should have the right to abuse their dogs...or cats...or probably anything else short of their spouses and children (wink, wink).

How do we know this? As your mother often told you, you can tell by their actions. ALFA regularly opposes any laws in this state that are pro-animal welfare. It’s currently attempting to keep a minimal housing bill from passing. You know, one of those radical bills that says your dog or cat needs shelter on all four sides when it’s raining or snowing.

This is what one political pundit says of our legislature’s indecision in this matter:

Sending it "down to subcommittee" is a way of killing the bill without voting against it. The members of the committee do not want to be on record voting against something so obviously needed, but they prefer subjecting animals to poor conditions to forfeiting ALFA's financial contributions.

What if it doesn’t pass this session? Then you can look for some strong opposition to ALFA insurance and its agents throughout the state. There’s absolutely no reason we should allow a bunch of Godless hooligans to dictate to our state legislature. Did we say Godless? We’re pretty sure at least some have numerous DUIs and divorces; it’s all public information and is about to become more public when the Birmingham activists hit full steam ahead.

A tremendous thanks to Rep. Andrew Sorrell for sponsoring this bill!

Lobbyists Among Us?

Do you ever read the political contribution lists? If you do, you may be left scratching your head as to why the Acme Widget Company gave six billion dollars to both Republican John Doe and Democrat Joe Roe. The why is that no matter who's elected, when Acme needs a favor it can approach the office holder and remind him/her of the contribution.

The Alabama Education Association was long called the most powerful lobby in the state and may still be. How about the second? That title may be up for grabs, but certainly the Alabama Farm Bureau is one of the leading contenders. Not sure of what the Alabama Farm Bureau is? Perhaps you of a younger generation know it as ALFA.

Farm Bureau is a national organization with tentacles in each state. Most states, as in about 45 or more, use "Farm Bureau" in the title. Why did Alabama's chapter change its name? Because as we all know, a new name wipes away bankruptcy or corruption. No, wait, it doesn't.

Why are we addressing this now? Yesterday we linked (a procedure many readers don't understand) an article on ALFA and related animal abuse/neglect. We then promptly received some negative comments. The vehemence of these comments, particularly one, gobsmacked us.

To most of us, ALFA is simply an insurance company, but apparently to some it's a legislative machine that must be defended. Hmmm, should we never mention that we use Cotton States? No, when someone calls you a Democratic snowflake for questioning ALFA, it's a marked indication that the organization doesn't have the best intentions for all the state's citizens. It's also an indication of just how many in other fields are on its payroll.

Is ALFA Your Insurance Carrier? Maybe Not Anymore...

You can't live in Alabama and not see their ads...either on billboards, televisions, or mailers. They're ALFA, formerly Alabama Farm Bureau, a company that changed its name years ago because...well, their rationale was a little sketchy, but nevertheless ALFA the company is now. Is it your insurance carrier? Then this blog is for you.

If you don't have other insurance with ALFA, as in car or boat, don't expect to renew your home policy with the insurance giant when your renewal date comes up. According to insurance experts, this could affect one in seven homes in our state or approximately 73K customers.

You've been warned, so start looking for another carrier. You might also want to write a sweet letter to your agent, the company CEO, and the state insurance commission telling them how much you appreciate the company's response to the recent tornadoes that destroyed much of four Alabama counties including Franklin. It won't make them reconsider, but it just might make you feel better.
