Is this a totally done deal? We can't promise more protests will help, but they won't hurt. We hope all interested parties will attend the next council meeting and demand a new recreation center...and the ousting of the current Parks & Rec department head...
Handy recreation center and Broadway recreation center were built at approximately the same time, give a very few years. Do the children of west Florence deserve to have a new facility more than the children of east Florence? Broadway is currently being "renovated". It entails new flooring in the "social room" to replace the ORIGINAL flooring installed in 1962 and painting the office area and bathrooms. Handy has a swimming pool. Will Broadway have one dug? Here is an idea. Use a CENTRAL location: let's say oh, ROYAL AVE, as an area to construct a new area wide recreation center that would benefit ALL children in the city of Florence. AND, enclose the olympic size swimming pool so we can have a year round Florence swim team again.
