From a TimesDaily article on District 2 Candidate Billy Ray Simpson:

Simpson said the city and Lauderdale County have spent millions on a new Florence-Lauderdale Animal Services building, and he wants more money dedicated toward impoverished people, as well. "It almost seemed like the animal shelter was more important than having a human shelter, and that's been a concern of mine for years," Simpson said.

Let's make this short and sweet: We support Room at the Inn and Room at the Table, but these groups are not in competition with the Florence animal shelter...nor should they be. Simpson lost a lot of votes with that idiotic statement and should go somewhere and indulge in some capital hydro-immersion.
