What It Was...Was Sheffield

Sheffield is a hot topic right now. We're not going to attempt to publish all the comments we receive about that city, but here are some from our own J. Redmon:

* Some Sheffield residents did not receive garbage pickup last week. Normally, if a customer's scheduled pickup day falls on a holiday, such as Christmas, like last week, the garbage will be picked up the next day. That DIDN'T HAPPEN this past week. Some residents have stated that Sheffield's Street Department's website stated garbage trucks would run Christmas Day. If true, why were some streets skipped? More importantly, what can customers expect THIS week?

* How stupid do local LE agencies think average criminals are? For the past 2 weeks, or so, there have been unused patrol cars parked at area businesses, presumably to make your average bad guy 'think twice' before committing some nefarious deed. The concept, in principle, is sound.

However: What are the odds of an officer parking his/her patrol car IN THE SAME SPOT AND LEAVING IT OVERNIGHT...for two weeks straight? C'mon, guys! Wake up! You can do better than that. You HAVE TO in order NOT to constantly play 'catch up' with the criminal element.

* How hard did Sheffield (city council, mayor, et al) fight to KEEP Outback from moving to Florence?

J.'s last comment is interesting since the TimesDaily has published the move is not yet a done deal. Another local publication has stated that it is. Which is correct?

We have to ask this question: If the managers/owners of the Outback truly believed that Inspiration Landing was about to become reality, would they want to move the eatery?
