If John Merrill Gave Truthful Interviews...

John Merrill Gives His Team A Plug (That He Had Left Over)

SS: Today we have Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill visiting our blog. Thank you for stopping by, Sec. Merrill.

JM: I would have visited earlier, but I've been tied up quite a bit. You'd be surprised at the knotty situations some legal assistants can create.

SS: But things must have slowed down since the election last November?

JM: Just a little, but I'm not one to sit on my tush.

SS: So your latest lady friend has reported. How have these revelations affected your wife?

JM: Good question. If they ever let me back in Phil Campbell, I'll be sure to try to find out.

SS: Since you've admitted to this extra-marital affair, do you have anything to say about the accusations from 2015 that you so vigorously denied?

JM: Not unless a second tape turns up. Can you believe the gall of some people to record life's most intimate bondage moments?

SS: Well, she is from Montgomery. Do you plan to return to Tuscaloosa permanently now that your political career is finished?

JM: I'm glad you asked that. After much thought and prayer, I've decided to become the new chaplain for the Crimson Tide football team. Tuscaloosa is home, after all, plus it's close to the noted dermatologist Dr. Robert Bentley. I need him to check out this rash on my, umm, cheeks.

There you have it. John Merrill making Mo Brooks look good since this morning...

Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill is a Horse's Patoot!

Considering the current health crisis, many Alabamians are planning on voting an absentee ballot in July. This is a personal decision, and we support the voters' right to choose to vote from home at any time during this pandemic and also support voting by mail as simply a practical idea at any time.

During the past two or three years, we've seen our secretary of state defend various alleged problems with the voting system in this state. Until now, we've thought he genuinely cared about helping citizens cast their ballots. When we're wrong, we're wrong.

Take a look at these screenshots from Twitter:

Rest assured, we won't be making the mistake of supporting Merrill in the future. He makes Will Ainsworth look good.

John Merrill Wants to Do WHAT to Doug Jones?

Some years ago, one of our regular readers wrote to us about being threatened by John Merrill. The alleged incident had happened some years before this gentleman contacted us, and we had no way to investigate any allegations properly. We had no doubt that something had happened between the two men, but since we didn't know what, we really hadn't thought too much about it in the intervening months and years.

Now it seems the news has been remiss in reporting a remark that investigative reporter Josh Moon has attributed to Merrill. According to Mr. Moon, Merrill threatened at a Vestavia meeting of the Republican party to "bust (Jones) in the chops."

We immediately had a vision of Merrill hitting Jones in the mouth, but with slang, who knows? Looking it up, the expression can also mean calling someone names. So Secretary of State John Merrill has openly said he wants to either hit our junior senator in the mouth or call him names?

If you're like us, you've been led to believe that Sen. Jones may have made quite a misstatement concerning minority voters in this state. Look into it farther, and you'll see that Jones was speaking of the U.S. as a whole, not our state specifically.

We're linking Josh Moon's article below. It's also very telling that our state, for all the "voter fraud" that is alleged, has prosecuted only one case of voter impersonation...ever.

Since this is a related topic, we're going to digress for a moment. We repeatedly hear of "dead people voting" in this and other states. We can't speak for other states, but the Alabama Department of Health sends a monthly report to each county registrar listing those citizens who have passed away in that period. The name of any deceased voter remains on the polling list for six to eight weeks tops.

As with most things and individuals, both Democrats and Republicans have enough flaws to report without making up charges. Debate candidates/officials on their actual words, not on how much you can twist their comments.

I'm John "Jivin'" Merrill and I'm Not Here to Chew Bubble Gum!

Really, John? Snicker...

Are We Protecting John Merrill?

Before we get to the main topic, we have some words of wisdom: If you call a black person a "n****r," especially one who's technically your boss, you just might expect him to try to have you fired.

*****

Earlier today a regular reader suggested we have previously protected Secretary of State John Merrill. Let's give you some background on this.

First, according to most government flow charts, the secretary of state is an office that ranks third in the executive branch of our government, following the lieutenant governor and preceding the attorney general. He or she is responsible for state elections and business governance.

It was only a few months ago that we became aware that current secretary John Merrill had been embroiled in a sex scandal in 2014. Why hadn't we known? We obviously miss a great deal that goes on in our government, but that is a biggie. We could have been working on a time-consuming assignment or we could have had the flu or we may have been the victim of defective technology the week this story broke.

The bottom line is: she said they met once and engaged in oral sex; he said they met once and kissed and he broke it off before anything more serious happened. We're going to take a wild guess here that Merrill's wife must have thought whatever happened was serious enough.

We're going to take another wild guess that, judging from Merrill's self promotion as secretary, he plans on running for an even higher office during the next election cycle. While the woman involved with Merrill was certainly no teenager, her involvement with the politician would certainly do him no good.

That brings us to the next point of our reader: Did we seek to cover up the fact that Merrill used state resources to hide his behavior. Since we were unaware of his behavior to begin with, how did we seek to cover it up? Our reader thinks this blog was not unaware, but had been sent information on the scandal in 2014.

We've thoroughly looked through our e-mails for that time frame, since this is the route he said the material was sent to us, and we've found nothing. Do we ever delete the communications? Only ones which ask something akin to: My boyfriend drove to work drunk this morning. Can you check to see if he was involved in the fender bender at the corner of Pine and Irvine? If we had received information an elected official was using our tax dollars to hide an extra-marital affair, does anyone out there really think we would have hidden this from our readers?

We're going to continue to look into the allegations against Merrill. Obviously, no one found them to be legitimate at the time; however, we think our readers have a right to know as much as possible about the claims. If Merrill is planning on running for lieutenant governor or governor, these charges will soon resurface no matter what.

Rest assured there will be more to come, and comments are welcome...
