Animal Abuse Trial Underway

 

Debra Jane Catledge, 63, is charged with eight animal abuse felonies plus several misdemeanors in relation to horses, dogs, and cats from her farm. Her Colbert County trial was postponed Wednesday, but will resume Thursday. Props to Dustin McCown for prosecuting!

Just Be Glad She Doesn't Have Human Children

Debra Jane Catledge is not dumb and she's not poor. The Cherokee/Barton "horse rescuer" also has a residence in Memphis and a second farm in Hardeman County, Tennessee. Below is a photo of the animal abuser when she was a student at a private college:

Catledge calls herself the owner of a horse rescue in Colbert County. Before this week, she had been arrested at least twice for her animal hoarding, not because of good intentions or mental illness, but for profit. Catledge was allowed to take a plea in Colbert County in 2014:

The Cherokee woman first came to public notice in 2013 when she was arrested on 15 counts of animal cruelty as 122 small dogs (Yorkies or Yorkshire Terrier mixes) were confiscated, along with several cats. Colbert County offered her a plea.

Then in 2022, she was arrested in Hardeman, Tennessee, where she owns her second farm. This is one of the animals rescued at that time, Eleanor:

Now Catledge has been arrested for animal cruelty for at least the third time, the second in Colbert County. She's charged with hoarding both dogs and horses (horse rescue and sale and all that!). Yes, Catledge not only received donations for her rescues, she and her boyfriend made money from selling the mistreated and malnourished animals.

Catledge had promised never to own animals again. What could have gone wrong with that? We're urging the Colbert County District Attorney's office to prosecute Debra Jane Catledge to the fullest extent of the law.
