Unfair & Racially Biased Majorette Trials at Muscle Shoals High?

From a Reader:

Are you aware that there was a Muscle Shoals majorette tryout on April 14th that was not conducted in a fair manner and Muscle Shoals has failed to make it right. The band director sent the audition routine to one of the contestants before the other girls had learned the routine.

The judges all had deep connections, so deep that one judge had trained 5 of the girls that she was judging and also knew all of them for at least 4 years. The judge also was a student at UNA, which one of the contestants mom worked at. The parents of the daughters who did not make the line should not have to be dealing with the unfair treatment Muscle Shoals has shown throughout the years towards people of color.

Several of the moms whose daughters made the squad are aware of this injustice and feel bad to stand back while innocent children's lives are being destroyed. Muscle Shoals prides themselves on fair and equal opportunities for all does this seem fair to you?

While we don't know all of the ins and outs of these trials, we do know that anyone who trained ANY of these young ladies should not have been on the judges panel. Nor should any who knew them in any way.

This obviously was a sham trial, and the powers that be at Muscle Shoals should be ashamed. As for other aspects? If there were racist elements to these trials, the high school is beneath contempt!

  1. sounds like a lot of new job opportunities. It would make sense to re do the tryouts, and remove the judge who trained the girls. this is very disgusting behavior. shame on the judge who took the position knowing.
