Four Mayoral Endorsements

With municipal elections in less than two weeks, it's time to make some endorsements...starting with the mayoral races.

Phil Campbell: We've known mayoral candidate Jim Bonner for quite some time and can't imagine a more qualified person to lead this small Franklin County town to a bright future. Leadership shouldn't be simply about treading water, but about forging ahead. Jim Bonner is the candidate who fills the bill here.

Sheffield: One of our Sheffield bloggers is quite opposed to Steve Stanley, while two others (one Sheffield, one Lauderdale County) markedly oppose David Johnson. We agree that both have some past history that might make them less than ideal for the job. That leaves Penny Freeman and Keven Leigh Robinson. While both have excellent credentials and would each make a great mayor, we've been impressed by Mr. Robinson who has reached out to us with his platform and endorse him as the best choice for Sheffield's mayor.

Muscle Shoals: Mike Lockhart has no obvious platform and seems to be running on "the people he can ask for help." Both Chelsea Kauchick and Danny McMillin have excellent records and platforms. Our blogging team is equally divided here, so do your own research and choose between these two more than able candidates.

Florence: This is a difficult choice. Both current mayor Steve Holt and former city councilman Sam Pendleton have excellent records. No, we haven't always agreed with them, but they have both always served well and done their best unlike certain "yes" men. Our consensus here is that Mayor Holt has momentum and should be allowed to continue his plans for the city.

Next: Some council candidates
