From a reader:
This article includes the speech given by Dr. H A Moody at the statue's original dedication. It gives voice to its spirit and purpose. Since we seem to have an abundance of politicians concerned with protecting their heritage, I propose the following: Have Danny Pettus; Tim Melson, and Lynn Greer re-enact Dr H A Moody’s speech at the opening ceremonies of the Handy Festival each year. Video their speech and post it online at the Lauderdale County Tourism Bureau so all the world can hear.
Now I am absolutely sure none will accept the invitation so maybe Project Say Something could take the lead.
One last thing: Edmund Pettus, he of the Selma Bridge fame and former grand wizard of the KKK, must be smiling up from the pits of Hades at this.
