Kaytrina P. Simmons is the current Florence District 1 city council representative. Ms. Simmons is seeking re-election to the council to continue the progress she's brought about the past four years. District 1 is a combination of residential and commercial areas, requiring both expertise and dedication. Ms. Simmons presents her qualifications here (Part 1):
Simmons states, “First and foremost, I am a citizen, not a politician, and a servant to all mankind. My mission is to continue to serve and be a voice for District 1 and ALL citizens in the City of Florence.” I am committed to protecting our neighborhoods.
In 2016, Simmons ran on promises and those promises were kept and delivered. In 2020, she is running on productivity. As a councilmember, she vows to continue striving diligently to make District 1 and the entire city a better place to thrive and have a better quality of life.
Simmons believes that, “We are not done. We are just getting started on the progress. We are not just building hope we are building a future for generations to come.” In my experience, I have the ability to work across the districts with my colleagues to address challenges. “Our homes may be in one district, but we live our lives across all of them.”
Simmons is very much engaged in the community and works with many leaders throughout the city. She serves and volunteers on many non-profit boards. As part of her 2020 campaign, she also plans to continue supporting organized labor unions, veterans in the community, as well as local law enforcement and first responders. She will continue her work with the Homeless Care Council to find ways to help the homeless population. She is committed to Revitalizing the District which she started upon going into office

*Paving, Resurfacing, New playground equipment for Lewis field, Gilbert Court, Bathrooms operational, they were over 15 years, added handrails, removed numerous Blighted structures, add speed cushions for safety, lower speed limits in neighborhoods, Upgrades to W. C. Handy Recreational Center, $24 Million Housing Development built, Resurfaced Tennis Courts on Chisholm Road, held community meetings, 106 New Businesses were opened in District 1, Fully support our Police and Fire, continue to work on the Board she serve as VP-Homeless Care Council to find ways to end homeliness, Holding property owners accountable, Working towards Crime reduction, make it safer for all citizens. Bridging the gap with our community and Law enforcement. Continuation process of Revitalization. Welcomed and supported renovations within the District: Florence Housing Authority over $30 million to Multi-Family Housing, and Mitchell Hollings worked complete a Phase 1 & 2 Renovations, Welcomed back the W. C Handy Pre-K-Florence City School System, Remolded Senior Center on Fairground Road. Hosted many events to bring Unity in the Community and engaged, that will continue.
City wide completion: Animal Shelter built, repurchased the Senior Center” The Club”, Supporter of First Responders, Supported NAMC , The Indian Mound, Renovations to Florence Fire Departments, Police Departments and much more.
Goals for 2020: Look into installing storm shelters, funding for infrastructure, revitalize the Historic District in District 1 with the attention it needs to bring it up to standard, continued paving, Look into School Bus Shelters, Better lighting in Gilbert Park and Lewis field with FCS, Continue to work with the Community and Law Enforcement and First Responders, I will advocate and be a champion for continuing economic growth. Continue to Clean up the District. I will work and support the efforts of the Mayor and Council with Bandwith and wireless technology to support the growing needs of our City and Communities. Ensuring our Police has the appropriate training needed to face and be prepared to take on today’s issues as we are facing many. Will continue to make District a safe and appealing community and environment.
I will continue to be accessible at any time to my constituents.She has a passion of caring for others and doing what it takes to better the community she holds so near and dear to her heart. “I was truly committed to District 1 and the City of Florence in 2016 when I first ran for the council seat, and I’m just as committed now, if not more.”
