So You Think You Can Do Tony Logan's Job?

Since the incident with Tuscumbia police officer Gregg Scoggins, we've seen several criticize department chief Tony Logan for hiring the disgraced deerslayer. Sorry, no props for all the arm chair police chiefs out there.

The cities of Sheffield and Tuscumbia pay their officers only a pittance compared to most agencies. Would you want to work for either department?

For a young man (or woman) just out of any two or four year college, with parents still in their 40s and healthy, there's no incentive to remain in the Shoals and work for next to nothing when he can move to Huntsville, Birmingham, or even Montgomery and receive adequate pay and extensive law enforcement training.

That being said, we assume that Chief Logan decided to give Scoggins a second chance when he hired him. Those who have never been given a second chance at anything may throw a stone here, but we sincerely doubt that there are any out there.

Instead of criticizing Chief Logan, why not show some displeasure with city councils which refuse to pay law enforcement a decent wage? Pay a living wage and hire Dudley Do-Right or pay a substandard wage and get Gregg Scoggins. It's not a difficult concept.

No Matter How Hard You Try, Scoggins, You'll Never Be Me...er, I!
