Four days ago, a 17 year-old resident of Russellville posted an advertising blurb on his Snapchat. The young man was arrested for Murder earlier this year and had indicated, since he was not allowed to run track at Russellville High in the aftermath, he would attend George Washington Carver in Birmingham in the Autumn. Yet he posted a blurb indicating he would be at Russellville for the coming football season.
Our takes:
1. The advertising was not produced by Russellville High School, but a Fox news department.
2. We believe the athlete posted the false information since it lauded him and his high school career. Looking at his social media, we perceive him to be what's popularly called a media whore.
3. No. We don't know how he will be attending school in Birmingham. It will be interesting to see if that comes to fruition.
4. One reader that we initially assumed to be employed by the Russellville school system stated the athlete was not on the list of registered students for this Fall at Russellville High. We discovered the gentleman is not employed by the system, and we find it troubling that he has access to the school roster (if he does as he says). While we don't believe he would use this in any untoward way, we don't understand how this list is passed around so freely.
We'll continue to follow this unfortunate story and post any new information that we receive.
