Update on "Russellville Player"

Four days ago, a 17 year-old resident of Russellville posted an advertising blurb on his Snapchat. The young man was arrested for Murder earlier this year and had indicated, since he was not allowed to run track at Russellville High in the aftermath, he would attend George Washington Carver in Birmingham in the Autumn. Yet he posted a blurb indicating he would be at Russellville for the coming football season.

Our takes:

1. The advertising was not produced by Russellville High School, but a Fox news department.

2. We believe the athlete posted the false information since it lauded him and his high school career. Looking at his social media, we perceive him to be what's popularly called a media whore.

3. No. We don't know how he will be attending school in Birmingham. It will be interesting to see if that comes to fruition.

4. One reader that we initially assumed to be employed by the Russellville school system stated the athlete was not on the list of registered students for this Fall at Russellville High. We discovered the gentleman is not employed by the system, and we find it troubling that he has access to the school roster (if he does as he says). While we don't believe he would use this in any untoward way, we don't understand how this list is passed around so freely.

We'll continue to follow this unfortunate story and post any new information that we receive.

Russellville High - Only Team with a Player Awaiting Trial for Murder

We have not used the name of the 17 year-old Russellville student arrested for murder in Florence, but two news outlets have. We won't use it here either, but according to reliable sources the young man was barred from competing in track in the weeks after the crime.

Now he's being allowed to play his senior year on the football team, possibly in search of a state championship. We don't know the case Lauderdale County has against the extremely versatile athlete, and obviously this was the coach's decision no matter the young man's guilt or innocence.

Our take? It's as bad as ****** ******.

Russellville High School is a Real Winner!

U.S. News & World Reports has just published its list of top 25 public high schools in the state. Coming in at Number 18 was Russellville, the only local school to make the list.

Such rankings are never 100% objective; however, these accolades are not given at random. Congratulations to Russellville High School!

Russellville High Threat/CBD Oil Support

According to a brief news release to parents, there has been a threat made toward Russellville High School. A ninth grader has been investigated in the matter, and all was deemed safe. Well, at least for other students; if we were a parent of this young man, he would not be safe for a very long time.

Anyone hear of a UNA survey recently? You know one where 100% of faculty and students said they loved Kenneth Kitts more than life itself? No? Thought not. More to follow shortly.

Local governments have been very tight-lipped on CBD oil sales recently. If you want to take part in clarifying these laws, or perhaps changing them if needed, you have an ally:

Anyone that would be interested in publicly showing support for CBD in the Shoals area please get in touch with me via my Facebook or messenger. #bringbackcbd #cbdislegal. James Wright

Russellville School Bus Shooting: "They Didn't Tell Us for Over 24 Hours"

Parents of some Russellville High School students are complaining they were not properly informed of the Wednesday afternoon incident in which two students fired a BB gun into a school bus filled with over forty students. While the Russellville High sophomore and freshman were arrested at the school early Thursday morning, and news reports were broadcast on local stations that night, several students were not aware of the incident until third block classes on Friday morning. Even then they were not informed that it was fellow students who were responsible.

Police Chief Chris Hargett has stated the BBs could have been dangerous. From Wiki:
BB guns are a type of air gun designed to shoot projectiles named BBs after the birdshot pellet of approximately the same size. These projectiles are usually spherical but can also be pointed; those are usually used for bird hunting. Modern day BB guns usually have a smoothbore barrel, with a bore diameter and caliber of 0.177 inches (4.5 mm). BB for modern day BB guns are usually steel, plated either with zinc or copper to resist corrosion, and measure 0.171 to 0.173 inches (4.34 mm to 4.39 mm) in diameter.

The main question that comes to mind is whether the students were in possession of the guns during classes on Wednesday. The 15 and 16 year old Russellville students are currently being held in juvenile detention.

The Tennessee Valley Juvenile Detention Center is a psychiatric residential treatment center located on Missouri Street in Tuscumbia. A former inmate wrote this description: The food is from Helen Keller hospital. It's not all that bad, the first 48 hours you are there you have to stay on lockdown and the only time you get to come out of your room is when you eat, clean your room, or take a shower. The showers are only 5 minutes long and the water isn't cold but its cool. You only get one phone call if you are on lockdown. After your 48 hours are up you get to go out into population and get as many phone calls as you need, unless you get into trouble. Visitation hours are from 2-4 and only your close family such as your mom, dad, brothers sisters, and grandparents can come to visit you. They have to be at least 18 years or older and your boyfriend or girlfriend can't visit you, you can call them though.

The two juveniles may have not liked Russellville High, but their current situation sounds much worse. If they wanted to be expelled for the rest of the school year, they just may have accomplished their goal.
