What kind of chance does the Shoals have to become home to a medical marijuana dispensary? If you thought there would be 37 around the state, you may be mistaken, at least according to the latest reports. There will be 37 licenses, but only 12 for dispensaries not connected to cultivation or transportation, etc.
From AL.com:
The law allows up to 37 dispensary sites across the state -- as many as 12 operated by the licensed dispensers and as many as 25 by the integrated companies. Dispensaries can only locate in cities, towns, or counties that have approved an ordinance or resolution allowing them. More than 50 municipalities and eight counties have approved dispensaries so far, according to the AMCC.
As of today, Florence, Killen, and Tuscumbia have plans to submit applications, as well as Lauderdale County. Just think, when all those tourists flock to Sheffield's Inspiration Landing, they'll have to drive to Tuscumbia for their meds. What were you thinking, Steve?
So how soon will we know if we're one of the lucky ones? As of now, it looks like next June for the final selections.
Don't hold your breath and don't inhale...
