SSN is here live with a man on the street interview from Sheboygan...
SS: Sir, have you ever heard of Florence, Alabama?
MOS: Yes. In fact I remember news from that area recently.
SS: Do you recall anything specific?
MOS: Well...there was that escaped convict...and some sort of idiot logo news. Then there was that business story that the locals don't "talk proper."
Now you should be asking what can we do to improve the image of Florence and the Shoals. Yet we predict many of you are thinking it could be worse; after all, it's not like a city employee is publishing "scholarly works" about how bad certain aspects of the town are...
This is not a tree falling in a deserted forest. This is a real problem with real industrialists and national pundits looking on. Do you like the message they're hearing?
Instead of simply saying outsiders are mistaken and that's their problem, isn't it time to realize that Florence is the one suffering if we don't make serious efforts to improve our image? If we don't, that large widget company from Sheboygan will never open a factory here and your brother-in-law will never get a job.
Relocating the Confederate monument would definitely help.
