...taking funds from the City of Florence? No? We didn't either.
How about the Methodist Church? Church of Christ? Presbyterian Church? No? We're pretty sure you didn't, because the city hasn't been asked for our tax dollars.
The only church that asks the City of Florence for donations is the Salvationist, aka the Salvation Army. Opposing these donations isn't "bigoted," it's merely common sense.
All money paid directly to the Salvation Army (this excludes donations to local special clubs, etc.) is subject to a percentage being sent to Virginia Beach (U.S. headquarters) or Atlanta (then a lesser portion to Virginia Beach) and finally the last portion to London, England, UK - as in Europe for the geographically impaired.
Give to Room in the Inn? It stays in Florence - 100% of it.
Give to Room at the Table? Ditto.
Give to Crossroads Community Outreach? Ditto.
Where do you want your donations to go? London, England, or Florence, Alabama?
How about the SA relief funds to disaster areas? Read the small print at the bottom of its pleas: Funding can be redirected to other areas (read: salaries) if the organization so deems.
No, no one is a bigot for having the intelligence and common sense to understand what the Salvation Army really is.
