Sheffield Housing Authority Faces Ethics Violation

Alabama law requires surplus property to be auctioned off. Recently, the Sheffield Housing Authority retired one of its buses. What did the authority do?

According to informed sources, the board donated the bus to a daycare. It was not just any daycare, but one sponsored by a religious body. It gets worse. An employee of this daycare is the child or a housing authority board member.

It's hard to make this situation any worse, but this is a time when Sheffield is paying on a bond issue to provide better infrastructure to Inspiration Landing. Yes, the City on the Bluff makes a payment each month to assist John Elkington's project.

So now, Citizens of Sheffield, your tax dollars are going to not only a millionaire, but to a private daycare...a private religious daycare that may not be your theological cup of tea. Shouldn't you tell the mayor and council how you feel about that?

    1. Most officials simply sit at a desk and draw a check. We don't believe in micromanaging, but obviously officials in Sheffield have no idea what is going on in their government
