Confederate Monument Compromise?

MOVE THE CONFEDERATE MONUMENT TO VETERAN'S PARK MUSEUM

Greetings from high atop the ridge in northeastern Lauderdale County.

This is an open letter to Lauderdale County Commissioners, as-well-as City of Florence Council members.

From the dedication of the Confederate monument until yesterday (July 4, 2020) it is shameful how a tribute to every fallen Confederate soldier, from all of Lauderdale County, has been disgraced for political purposes by both political parties.

As protests surrounding the monument continue, in front of the Lauderdale County Courthouse, it has become abundantly clear that a compromise may be in order.

If the Confederate monument is to be removed it should be placed outside of the Lauderdale County Veteran's Museum in Veteran's Park.

Confederate veterans were afforded the same rights as every United States soldier. In the future new historical markers can be installed near the monument naming every fallen Civil War solder from Lauderdale County, both white and black Confederate as well as Union.

The Confederate monument belongs at Veteran's Museum. It does not belong inside a City of Florence cemetery. It will be 100% wrong to allow the removal of the Confederate monument per the terms of individuals who stand to gain politically, academically, and later financially from it's removal.

Do the right thing.

You good bud,

ZAR
