If you live in Sheffield, your utility bills will probably be going up $48.00 a year. That's 24 bucks for a general increase, effective October 1st. In addition there will be a 24 buck increase for wastewater if things go as planned. The wastewater increase is still pending.
The head of Sheffield Utilities stated during the last council meeting that the utilities company has lost as average of 112K over the past three years.
We have to ask: Just how much is Inspiration Landing losing each month? Wouldn't the money paid each month to John Elkington cover what the Sheffield Utilities is losing? Or go a long way to fix pothole filled streets?
Why does a pie-in-the sky project...now nine years old...come before the citizens of Sheffield?
Is Sheffield paying Elkington every month? I heard they were not.
ReplyDeleteWe will check to see if this payment is still made each month.
DeleteJust wondering if you found out whether or not Sheffield was making those payments to Elkington. My source is in a position to know.
DeleteWe have not. We welcome comments from anyone who may know.
DeleteI still say the State needs to conduct an audit of Sheffield's finances.
ReplyDeleteAlthough he failed to develop necessary consensus or 'sell' his idea to anyone that has a say-so, Mayor Stanley did present a viable alternative that would not require a rate hike...one that was flatly rejected by the Utilities Board and subsequently voted down by the Council. What was his presented alternative? Why was it rejected by the Utilities Board? What was discussed at the Council meeting regarding this topic? What are the extenuating circumstances, real and/or perceived, that contributed to this finality? Context matters. It's the difference between meaningful discussion and nonsensical gossip, I suppose.
ReplyDelete(..and I still haven't seen any of you much opinionated keyboard warriors at any of the Council meetings...not even one. Why?)
A reliable observer told us that the council never establishes eye contact with the mayor.
DeletePerhaps them all sitting side-by-side in a row, facing forward could be a factor in the limited->no eye contact?
