Alabama primaries in the 2022 election cycle will be held in slightly over six months. In other words, a lot can happen between now and May 24th.
One of the most interesting races, especially for our area, is the contest for State Auditor. There are currently four candidates (however, the qualifying deadline isn't until January 28th):
Stan Cooke - A Pentecostal preacher with dubious credentials.
Rusty Glover - A former state representative and senator.
Andrew Sorrell: A current state representative.
Brent Woodall: An attorney practicing in Florence.
A poll conducted by the St. Clair Young Republicans has just ended. Here are the results:
Shoals residents Sorrell and Woodall are in the two top spots; however, if these results were final, Andrew Sorrell would win without a runoff. We highly anticipate a great deal of change in this race, especially if Jackie Zeigler joins the fray. Still, it's good to see that our two locals are currently in the lead.
The group that conducted the poll? We're absolutely gobsmacked. It's for Christian conservatives only. Moderate Republican? Sorry, you can't join. Faithful Reform Jew? Sorry, you're out of luck also.
Here's hoping Josh Moon does an article about this group for the Alabama Political Reporter...
