Questions about Matthew Moran's Bond

Several readers have asked why Lauderdale County Detention Center worker Matthew Jordan Moran's bond has been set at just over 90K, while that of Paul Clemmons, alleged sexual abuser of a child, has been given a bond of just over 50K. Each charge has a predetermined bail amount. Clemmons was arrested on only two sex crimes, while Moran was charged with six drug crimes.

According to Moran himself (who either has no idea how to wear a mortarboard or is slightly tipsy in the above photo), his Friday arrest involved his fourth go-round as a mule bringing illicit drugs into the jail. He was found with one opioid and two stimulants, all scheduled drugs. His take for the short crime spree was $2,400.00. Was that somewhat piddling amount worth his entire future?

One reader who recently spent time in the detention center stated that Moran was a cruel jailer. Obviously, this is an opinion and not documented; however, we wonder how this young man now feels inmates should be treated?

As we publish this, more arrests are expected, and the 20 year-old Moran is facing more charges after his indictment. He remains in the LCDC with no one having posted his bond. It appears there will be no pleasant endings for anyone involved in this case.
