Move to Relocate Monument to Pope's Tavern

In the past, we have supported the relocation of the Confederate memorial to the Florence City Cemetery; however, there's a new movement afoot that may catch traction. Should the city move the monument to Pope's Tavern?

This may be a much more appealing idea to satisfy several points of view. Yet no relocation can seemingly be considered until the repeal of current laws. The repeal lies in the hands of the state legislature. Need we say more on what could go wrong here?

Still, the idea of Pope's Tavern gives us renewed hope for a quicker solution to this problem. The idea originated with UNA professor emeritus Dr. Thomas Ott. Kudos to Dr. Ott for an excellent plan.

Thanks to the reader who reported a non-working link on our e-book Ron Wikkid. We have it repaired for those murderinos who think this Shoals crime tale makes a perfect Valentine's Day gift.

  1. Moving it ANYWHERE is a VIOLATION of state law.

    1. WRONG! I am not going to wait for "Shoalanda" to correct this reply.....when it comes to all things reactionary or radical right wing it seems the bloggers who control this page suddenly have a "hands off" policy toward misinformation. But; just for the sake of the general public in the Shoals who are so easily fooled by inflammatory false statements, below is the actual wording of the law including the wording of the $25k "fine" which can be paid to move a monument. This has already been raised in Florence. Maybe this will clear things up, but as always, feel free to go crazy over "alternative" facts if you are absolutely compelled to! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alabama_Memorial_Preservation_Act

    2. We're pretty sure no one has to pay a FINE unless a law is broken...

  2. The protesters will not be anymore happy with it at Popes Tavern than the courthouse. I at least think it would be a safer location against vandals than the cemetery.
